Video M53 shows nice technique for passing variables to a grid component when called from a Button on a grid. But what if the component is being called from a Textbox control with a defined Lookup?
1) When defining the component to call for a Textbox control with lookup type Grid Component, the displayed window ("Define Lookup Window") is very similar but different than the window ("Action Javascript - Open a Grid Component") that is shown for video M53. There seems to be no place to "Define Arguments". (There is also no distinction between "base" and "user" filter, but that is for my next ng post!)
2) If I change my Textbox control into a label and add a button beside it then I could use the technique from video M53 (calling a grid via a button), but where do I get the arguments from in the OnGridInitialize server event in the called grid? There is no "_gridCurentArgumentsXML" (spelling error intended on "curent").
3) How do I call the grid in "Select" mode?
4) How would I get the values from the selected record back to the grid that called the "lookup" grid?
5) Should I just forget about the argument passing technique from M53, stick with a Textbox control with a defined lookup component, and use session variables? With as many times as session variable newsgroup topics appear, I am a bit weary of using them for anything other than values that are set once during the login / sign-in procedure and then never changed during that session.
