Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Need help with dialog2 javascript

    Hi Everyone,

    I created a dialog to make it easy for my client to email requested documents to his clients.

    The dialog sends the email, but I can't get it close after the email has been sent.
    The code below is in the afterDialogValidate serverside event.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Gregg

    Code:
    	e.javascript = <<%jcode%
    	{dialog.Object}.resetForm(false);
    	{dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow(this);
    	alert('Sent!');
    	%jcode%

    Have you tried just redirecting the user to your home page?

      I haven't.
      My cancel button closes the dialog. I want the final action of the send (submit) button to do the same.

          We're almost there (I think).
          Code:
           jcode = jcode+crlf()+"window.open('http://a5.kdtrans.info/workingarea/invoice_send.a5w');"
          is the code that opens the dialog (It's an action button that does a bunch of other things first.)

            Hello all!

            I learned a lot from this thread. I also played and re-played the video on closing the form after the submit. However, I am using a Dialog2 and no matter what I have tried, I can't seem to get the Dialog2 to close on submit.

            Does anyone have some idea on this?

              Charles,

              Let me reconnect the computer that has that project on it.
              I am pretty sure I got it to work.

                Re: Need help with dialog2 javascript

                I could be wrong but because you are using a non-Alpha method to open your window (window.open) you cannot use an Alpha method to close the window. In your case, just search the Internet for how to close a window opened with window.open. If I recall you have to search for methods that do not prompt the user with Ok/Cancel after you programmatically close the window.

                  Re: Need help with dialog2 javascript

                  Easiest way is to define a dummy blank span somewhere in your dialog, like <span id='MySpan'></span>

                  Then at end of your afterDialogValidate, you put:

                  Code:
                  e.javascript = <<%jcode%
                    var ele = $('MySpan');
                    if(ele) {dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow(ele);
                  %jcode%
                  Cheers.

                    Thanks Andy. I can't get this to work. I'm not sure where, in the Dialog2 to put the span id syntax.

                    Thanks again.

                      Re: Need help with dialog2 javascript

                      In the onclick event of your grid's button, you define your action javascript to open a dialog. In this builder there is a line that says "Window Title".
                      You place the span in there like: My Title <span id='MySpan'></span>
                      The span part is invisible because there is no text within.
