Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How may I open a Tabbed Pane from a Dialog Component?

    I have a Dialog component that successfully opens other controls/pages etc. by selecting menu choices. I want one of my menu choices to open a Tabbed Pane.

    My dialog is already displayed in a pane. I need to somehow open another pane at the parent level. The only way I know how to open a pane is to add another choice to my existing tabbed pane choices. I don't want to place this option "there".

    A code snippet would be very helpful and appreciated.

    Some options (untested as usual)...
    If you add a button to your dialog, you should be able to set the onclick -> "open a grid component" to open in the same TabbedUI.
    Or, you could add a new tabbedUI menu button, but hide it. In its onClick, you will see a function call looking like "action_{alias}_3cde98d4_52c1_4d6e_a16d_fc739710fa94(); return false;" which you can copy-and-paste and call directly from your dialog.
    Hope these help (and work).

      this is just additional note on andy's reply.
      take a look at video #95 version 10 videos.
      copy up to but not including the return false. use that in the button in the dialog that should open the said pane.

        Re: How may I open a Tabbed Pane from a Dialog Component?

        Thanks Andy and Gandhi for your response. With your help I believe I am very close to what I need.

        The problem (I believe) with the solution is that my dialog button is already contained within a tabbed pane. In other words, I am not at the same level as the general Tabbed UI. Seems to me I need to account for a "parent" or such. I do have a working button on the upper tabbed ui. Works fine if I click directly. Now the problem is gaining access to that same button from another location, a level below.

        I've tried something like the below:

        po = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();

        po.action_{alias}_a53a6eb0_e7a7_4299_9b6e_18a9a93f9293();

        But that does nothing. I don't think my syntax is correct. No error msg, simply no action at all.

        Note: I've tried it with and without the parent reference.

        Confused, need help!!!

          i just checked my system.
          i have a dialog which i display on my tabbed_ui and to that dialog i added a button to open a grid in a tabbed ui pane and published it. i did not have to do any code at all.
          it works just as expected so i am a t a loss why it was so difficult for you to do.
          is there something i am missing?

              Gandhi,

              Your screencast was invaluable to me in solving this problem. I was always trying to find some sort of programmatic way in which to achieve what I wanted to do. As your screencast proved, all I needed was the right settings in the array of object settings. I did not know about the Target option which listed a Tabbed Pane as an option. I feel real silly not knowing that. I just never had a need to use it before and if I did I forgot about it. In any case, knowing that option exists is a grand revelation for me at this point.

              Thanks again for the screencast which probably saved us a half dozen or more back and forth's in getting us on the same page.

              Tom W.
