Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    WAS Memory Leakage

    Hi,

I've been running a few low user count apps and some simple sites on my VPS with A5 WAS v11 without noticing any memory leakage. I've just launched a site that has about 200 users , about 200 unique hits and 100 logins per day. It has some very complex grids and dialogs and works great, performs well with a happy client. However the memory usage is about 500Mb after 1 day growing by about 100Mb per day after that. I use always up and auto restart in the morning when it gets high. However I'm looking for a better solution than restarting.

Any tips on resolving or at least reducing WAS memory leakage?

    Thanks
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

What build are you using? I am using pre-released build 3625-4151, it is pretty stable, been using for the last 3/4 weeks. This build resolved many issues I had which may be similar to you.

Edhy, had you used the one right before (3623-4150)? I had downloaded it but not yet installed it--just wondering if you knew if anything had changed significantly between the two.

The prerelease notes have a few things related just to server stability since mid-April.

        Hi,

That sounds hopeful. I'll give it a try.

        Thanks

Chris, I have tested all with A5 support guys helping them identify all the problems I had in my application and the web server, trust me, the version I have now works pretty good, of course make good backups of your source project and the A5WebRoot in case something else shows up in your case, but I have been having issues with the web server and the way my application is being used by 70 users and after several months of painful testing and angry end users and my customer, we where able to generate windows dump file that helped the A5 support team identify the problems I could duplicate with my application.

Well that is the short version of the events, but so far, I am coming back to normal with my customer trust and the A5 web server is proven to be more solid and stable.

Be aware that A5 has ton of code and features that hardly every developer may use in all applications, so it is still possible that something may break up with this build in your application, so please always backup first, several times if possible. In my case, with this build I had to republish my application.
