Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Round Number to 50 and 100 - Formula

    I am trying to figure out something. Spent sometime but could not locate appropriate functions to use.

    I have a numeric field with 2 decimal: example:

    grade1_price = 33.23
    grade1_multiplier = 2.2
    grade1_total = grade1_price * grade1_multiplier
    grade1_round = THIS IS WHERE I AM STUCK

    I would like to do following:
    1) If the grade1_round is less than or close to $#50.## decimal (say: $146.89, $2447.76, $632.12 I would like it to be $149.99, $2449.99 and $649.99)
    2) If the grade1_round is greater than 50 and less than $#100.## (say: $1256.60, $7689.00, $5463.87 I would like it to be $1299.99, $7699.99, and $5499.99)
    3) If the grade1_round has .00 as decimal then leave the decimal as #00 and round up close to $#49.00 (if it is less than $#50) and round up to $#99.00 if it is greater than $#50 and less than $#100.00
    EXAMPLE (Case 1: 345.00 should be 349.00 case 2: 1289.00 should be 1299.00)

    Thanks for the help.

    Code:
    FUNCTION getNumber AS N (n AS N )

    	dim intN as n
    	dim intN2 as n
    	dim modN as n
    	dim modN2 as n
    	dim modN3 as n

    	modN3 = mod(n,50)
    	if modN3 = 0 then
    		intN2 = int(n/50)
    		getNumber = (intN2 * 50)- 0.01
    	else
    		intN = int(n/100)
    		modN = mod(n,100)
    		mod2 = if(modN > 50,99.99,49.99)
    		getNumber = intN*100 + mod2
    		end if

    END FUNCTION
    usage:
    x = getnumber(your_number)

    i am playing with this code.
    see if this helps, you may improve upon it.

    you probably won't need intN, intN2 just one of them.

      Hi Gandhi:
      How do I apply this to a calulated field? I am not sure of how to call a function that will be used for a calculated field.

      Thanks for the help!

        Re: Round Number to 50 and 100 - Formula

        modN3 = mod(n,50)
        change this to
        modN3 = mod((n*100),50)

        here is how to use this
        grade1_round = get number(grade1_total)

        i still have a little problem
        i need to format the result in decimals like 349.99 or 349.00

        Code:
        FUNCTION getNumber AS N (n AS N )

        	dim intN as n
        	dim intN2 as n
        	dim modN as n
        	dim modN2 as n
        	dim modN3 as n

        	modN3 = mod((n*100),50)
        	if modN3 = 0 then
        		intN2 = int(n/50)
        		getNumber = (intN2 * 50)- 1
        	else
        		intN = int(n/100)
        		modN = mod(n,100)
        		mod2 = if(modN > 50,99.99,49.99)
        		getNumber = intN*100 + mod2
        		end if

        END FUNCTION
        corrected code

                      Hi Gandhi:

                      Thanks for the help. It looks like I need a little modification:

                      Rather than rounding up to hundreds and fifties I need it to round up to following:

                      CASE 1:
                      Code:
                      If a [COLOR="#FF0000"]CASE 1 Checkbox[/COLOR] is selected
                      If the value is 432.99 should be 439.99
                      If the value is 34.87 then it should be 39.99
                      If the Value is 56.12 then it should be 59.99
                      If the value is 59.00 then it should be 59.99
                      Basically it is rounding to it's closet (10.00-.01) = #9.99
                      CASE 2: ALREADY YOU DID IT!
                      Code:
                      if [COLOR="#FF0000"]Case 2 Checkbox[/COLOR] is selected
                      Then
                      FUNCTION getNumber AS C (n AS N )

                      	dim intN as n
                      	dim intN2 as n
                      	dim modN as n
                      	dim modN2 as n
                      	dim modN3 as n

                      	modN3 = mod((n*100),50)
                      	if modN3 = 0 then
                      		intN2 = int(n/50)
                      		getNumber = ((intN2+1) * 50)- 1
                      	else
                      		intN = int(n/100)
                      		modN = mod(n,100)
                      		mod2 = if(modN > 50,99.99,49.99)
                      		getNumber = intN*100 + mod2
                      		end if

                      	getNumber = alltrim(str(getNumber,250,2))

                      END FUNCTION
                      CASE 3:
                      If Case 3 checkbox is selected then
                      Code:
                      Leave as it is.
                      Thanks for the help. This will be a huge help to me.

                          Looks good!

                          Questions to you.

                          I will have three checkboxes on the form how do I corporate this?

                          If CASE 1 check is selected then the field would calculate CASE 1 function. Only one check can be selected.

                          I am using table field calculator directly.
