Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Uniqueness test

    Please help,

Can alpha five perform a uniqueness test on an active link mysql table? If yes how do you make it work? been trying to do this but alpha five would still accept duplicate value in a field even though uniqueness test is active.

    Re: Uniqueness test

    hello

i know you said active link mysql table,
why active link table if you are using web interface, if you directly connect lot easier.
also you can check directly using alphadao, lot simpler than you think.
use validation rules and fill in the connection string and the set up
    it is simple.
(or you can make the mysql check for uniqueness making that field an indexed field no duplicates allowed.)
    thanks for reading

        Re: Uniqueness test

I do not work with active link tables or desktop so I may not be able to direct you to right method.
but as I said earlier you can ask MySQL to check for uniqueness by defining an index and make the index unique and MySQL will do the checking
        for you.

(or you can make the mysql check for uniqueness making that field an indexed field no duplicates allowed.) +1

If you are using MYSQL Workbench
Right click the Table > Alter Table > Indexes
for the name type UQ_PERSON_MEETING (e.g 1 person per meeting)
Select UNIQUE (instead of INDEX) on the constraint type
On the right check person_id, meeting_id
          Click Apply
          Click Ok

HAndle Alphas grid serverside event: onSQLExecuteError to catch the error and output a nicer error
          if atc(e.errorMessage,"UQ_PERSON_MEETING")
onSQLExecuteError="Person has already been added to this meeting"
          end if

If you want to check this on the frontend side of things, and your using a dropdown to select your person, you can use a lookup field with a dynamic filter to filter people who are not currently in this meeting.

In this sense - the database enforces integrity and the frontend doesnt show users that are not allowed to be added to the meeting (Integral and Efficient)
The 2nd step isnt needed, but it is a nice to have - why show users in the dropdown if they are already part of the meeting?

          Gluck!

Active Links are just a "middle man" / "broker" for the dbf to mysql table. Why do you have an active link table anywyas? do you have code that uses dbf methods? (record_delete, record_update etc)?
If not, i would delete your active link table and just create a new AlphaDAO COnnection string to the MySQL db and use that.

Anyways a unique constraint enforced at the mysql engine level will be respected because the active link is just going to try to write to the mysql table (as far as i know based on my limited knowledge of how the active links are setup)
