Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Edit Combo List with curency field being filled in

I setup an edit combo list on my UX component. This lookup is used to price out parts. It looks like this

    Darts 50
    Dart Board 20
    Roller Skates 60

The issue is that I can't get the numbers to be formated as dollars with zero's like this:

    Darts $50.00
    Dart Board $20.00
    Roller Skates $60.00
    etc

I am able to get my fields in the UX component to look correct by using the Client Side Properties. I'm using a MySQL backend setup with the following fields the description field is a varchar(50) and the fees field is DECIMAL(8,2). The numbers store with .00 at the end of them and that is fine. If I could get those numbers to show in my edit combo list then at least it would look halfway ok.

Here's what my edit combo list looks like. You'll notice that the numbers in the Edit Combo List have no zero's or dollar signs. I've tried everything I knew to get this looking like currency. I need it to look like this |Darts .................$50.00| Please review my image attached perhaps it will help you understand the issue.

Re: Edit Combo List with curency field being filled in

if you are using mysql data you could convert the number to a string and concatenate the dollar sign.
I do this in views and use that data for the list. Just right align
    ex.

    Code:
    CAST(round(YourTable.YourCurrencyField,2) AS char) AS txtYourCurrencyField

if you want the $ sign
    CONCAT('$',CAST(round(YourTable.YourCurrencyField,2) AS char)) AS txtYourCurrencyField

Re: Edit Combo List with curency field being filled in

I'm very new at working with MySQL and Alpha Anywhere. The MySQL table and fields are as follows:

      r_invoice - MySQL table name
      Service_1_desc - part description
      Service_fees_1 - dollar amount

Could you give me the step by step on how to do this.

I finally got the answer to my issue and don't understand how to use it...LOL Help

Re: Edit Combo List with curency field being filled in

The way I do it is create a MySQL view that includes all of the fields that you will need to update the table you are using the look-up for. Include the converted string field and the numeric field. Create your look-up, select the view for the data source, select the fields to display, use the display template to format the display the way you want, use the fill in fields to select the field to update. There are many good books that explain this in more detail.

I'm going to follow what you just explained by making the view in MySQL. Thanks for all your help and getting back to me. I'll let you know how it turns out. Also do you know what i would look for to find books on this subject?

I'm still learning about MySQl and the Views so I wasn't sure how to use the information you sent me. I was however able to go to Nate Mitchell who is an Alpha programmer and also understand SQL much better then me. He took what you wrote and built the view that I needed. Thank you for taking the time to show me the way. I feel like I was lost and now I'm found...LOL Anyway your view worked great.
