Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    missing currentrowdata

    Hi Everyone,

I am trying to add a new grid to my current project.
Everything is working fine, except that when I click on a button(icon),
the function is not getting e._currentrowdatanew or e._currentrowdataold data.

This is only happening to new grids, thank someone my old grids are working as expected.
Does anyone have experience with this issue ?

    Thanks much,

gandhi - xbasic is case insensitive. e._currentrowdatanew, e._currentRowDataNew, and e._CURRENTrOWdATAnEW are all valid.

Gregg - Is your grid read only? currentRowDataOld and currentRowDataNew will not contain anything if your grid is read only: http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/~alpha...s+in+Grids+V10

          thanks, sarah!
all the examples in alpha has the similar way of representing the e object, so naturally i imagined that's the way to refer an e object.
i tested it out and you are correct.

Alpha's xbasic case insensitivity makes me irate - though, not as irate as things like dim n as n and the duality of "=": it's assignment AND equality all in one! "Lovely." Roll this with a language like JavaScript and it's ENDLESS confusion and mistakes. Not to mention the fact that you tend to write really sloppy code when the compiler treats everything so liberally.

But I'll take it over debugging C++ Template Linker Errors any day.

I appreciate the responses from GGandhi and TheSmitchell.

The grid is read only, but I thought that only affected _currentrowdataold (it's been working fine on the previous 12 versions.
I'm not getting new data, just using the current data for various UDFs.

This just started this week, and is only happening with the new grids.
I have tried various options, including different version of alpha5, different version of windows, and even went so far as to setup a new mysql server.
The strangest thing I have noticed is that using version 10, on windows 8, I did not have this issue.

As it turns out, making the grid editable is a great work around.
It took some extra doing to get back to the uneditable appearance, but at least everything is working now.

i still have one more question, even though you have successfully resolved the issue.
when you defined the function for the onClick event, the function declaration pop up comes up. in that you will name the function and other things.

                  the question is:
did you check the last line that says compute current row data?

if you check that, the grid will query the server for the additional data in a read only grid too, and make them available.

By my default (less confusion) I use the server-side xbasic option
to the far right, but they are supposed to be the same thing.

                            Gandhi,

That was the problem I started with.
If you look at the picture from my first post, you'll see that
                            e.currentrowdatanew has no values.
I'm still not sure what caused the issue. Hopefully the work-around
                            I'm using will not fail.
I appreciate the time you've invested in this, as it really seems
                            to be a strange issue.

                              e.currentrowdatanew
there is underscore missing, the property is
e._currentrowdatanew or the way I like
                              e._currentRowDataNew

I saw your first post, you referenced it properly.

                              yes it is weird.
