Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Fetch_find problem ?

    Dear Experts,

    order by descending of dtos(x_date)
    recno, x_date,

    9, "08/11/2013"
    451, "01/04/2013"
    tbl.index_get("dtos_tag")
    tbl.fetch_find(dtos('01/02/2013')) = -9 < ------ why the closest record is 9 ?
    tbl.fetch_find(dtos('01/03/2013')) = -9 < ------
    tbl.fetch_find(dtos('01/04/2013')) = 451
    tbl.fetch_find(dtos('01/05/2013')) = -451
    tbl.fetch_find(dtos('01/06/2013')) = -451
    tbl.fetch_find(dtos('08/10/2013')) = -451
    tbl.fetch_find(dtos('08/11/2013')) = 9
    tbl.fetch_find(dtos('08/12/2013')) = -9
    tbl.fetch_find(dtos('08/13/2013')) = -9

    query.find() also got the same result

    How to get record 451 if date is less than "01/04/2013" ?

    Thanks

    Re: Fetch_find problem ?

    Fred,

    from Help,
    If <TBL>.FETCH_FIND()is successful, the found record is retrieved and its Record_Number is returned. If no exact match is found, a negative number corresponding to the record number of the closest matching record is returned.
    You have to change the Filter Expression ,tbl.fetch_find(Filter Expression)

      Re: Fetch_find problem ?

      Sorry, the syntex of tbl.fetch_find is not using filter expression, but Matching_expression)

      Extract from Documentation
      ==========================================
      Record_Number as N = <TBL>.FETCH_FIND( Matching_Expression as A )

      dim tbl_product as P
      dim indx_1 as P
      tbl_product = table.open("c:\data\product.dbf")
      indx_1 = tbl_product.index_primary_put("id_index")
      rec = tbl_product.fetch_find(inv_item->product_id)
      if (rec > 0) then
      on_hand = tbl_product.qty_stock
      else
      ui_msg_box("Record not found", "The closest match is record number " + abs(rec)")
      end if
      tbl_product.close()

          Fred

          I have tested from AlphaSports. It is fine with sort order.
          Code:
          vCustId ="00000012"
          vGetAll =""
          dim tbl as p
          tbl = table.open("invoice_header")
          'query.filter ="customer_id="+quote(vCustId)
          query.filter =.t.
          query.order ="dtos(date)"
          query.options ="d"
          qry = tbl.query_create()
          rcd = qry.records_get()
          tbl.fetch_first()
          while .not. tbl.fetch_eof()
              	'vInvNumb = tbl.Invoice_number
              	'vInvDate = tbl.Date

              	vGetAll = vGetall+tbl.Invoice_number+" "+tbl.Date+crlf()
              tbl.fetch_next()
          end while
          qry.drop()
          tbl.close()
          showvar(vGetall)

          How to get record 451 if date is less than "01/04/2013" ?
          Do you know the RECORD Number 451 when you enter or create a filter?
          or do you want to find the Record number 451 with your filter?

            Re: Fetch_find problem ?

            thanks for your support, I can do the query_create without any problem even with descending option. as you see from the code, it show the correct date value and recno() value within fetch loop

            but the problem is from fetch_find() function that return the un-expected record according to the document for the closest records pointed if find() can't get the extract record.

            Thanks

              Re: Fetch_find problem ?

              Fred,

              In according book,
              a negative number corresponding to the record number of the closest matching record is returned.
              so I think, your Filter may has a problem.

              but the problem is from fetch_find() function that return the un-expected record
              Test with fetch_find("put specific record number") , see what you get the return.

                Thanks a lot, it's just a reduced simple sample code

                the result only have problem when the filter is in descending order
                and if the filter is in ascending order the results have no problem at all

                BTW, I have send to alphafive to clarify this problem.
