Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calling a function from a button on a Dialog component

    I have a dialog component that displays a customer's service request that was entered by a CSR. I'd like to be able to create a button on the Service Request dialog screen that, when clicked, calls a stored procedure and passes it the service request ID (on the screen) as a parameter. This stored proc creates work order records from the service request. I've tried adding a button to the screen and then on the onClick Javascript event, adding a new Action Javascript action of run Inline-Javascript. But I must be missing something because the defined javascript doesn't created the desired work order records when the button is clicked.

    Suggestions on the best way to do that?

    I'm running V11 and using a SQL database.

    Thanks

    Re: Calling a function from a button on a Dialog component

    hello

    the data submitted should be available via e._currentRowDataNew.your_field_name.
    on the button onClick event define a xbasic function, and you could call the stored procedure submitting this value as an argument in that function.

      Re: Calling a function from a button on a Dialog component

      It's possible that the data wouldn't actually being submitted. I have a Submit button that will save changes to the record but it's possible the CSR will simply call up the Service Request dialog, look at it to ensure it's correct, and then click the Create Work Order button. In that scenario, how would I reference the Service Request ID (parameter I want to pass)? The Service Request ID is being displayed in a Label control named serviceID. Also, on the onClick event, is it best to have a self-defined javascript function execute the SQL statement to call the stored procedure?

        look at it to ensure it's correct,
        how? just by themselves or look into some other data in another table etc.,

        what makes the data correct?

          Re: Calling a function from a button on a Dialog component

          The data can be edited and then saved by clicking the Submit button. There is validation on the Submit process. But to create the work order, the CSR will click the Create CSF button. So once the CSF button is clicked, the data is correct. So what I want to be able to do is take the Service Request ID that is a field on the screen and pass that as a parameter to a stored procedure. The stored procedure takes the ID, queries the service request table and then takes those values and creates the work order records from it. The onClick action has this code behind it: {dialog.object}.runAction('createCSF'); ... I defined a Javascript funtion via the dialog box called createCSF. The code for the action is currently: alert('Sample Message'); ... I'm just using that to ensure the function is being called correctly. I am assuming the code I really need would be replace this test code. That is where I'm stuck. Attached is a screen shot of what the dialog screen looks like. The Create CSF button at the bottom is the trigger to create the work order (CSF).

            since i do not understand lots of things in the question like
            how an entry is verified,
            what are the fields from service request table to be added, what is service request table, where will they be added and what will be the end result table will be etc., etc.,
            my suggestion will be, please read the articles from alpha.

            that will definitely direct you to right path. good luck.

              I probably put in too many details that really aren't applicable to the core question. The only issue is being able to call a stored procedure and pass a parameter to it from a button on a dialog screen. The stored procedure and all the other functionality that I outlined is already in place and working. Its simply the code (or function) necessary that will invoke an already created stored procedure and passing a value on the screen.

                you will create a xbasic function that is called by the onClick event
                the usual code is
                Code:
                dim your_variable as c
                your_variable = e._currentRowDataNew.your_field
                dim cn as sql::connection
                dim sqlCommand as c
                dim args as sql::arguments
                dim flag as l
                flag = cn.open(name::your_connection_name)
                if flag
                        sqlCommand = "CALL your_procedure_name(:your_argument)"
                         args.add("your_argument", your_variable)
                        flag = cn.execute(sqlCommand, args)
                          if flag
                 ......do what you need to do
                         end if
                cn.close()
                end if

                  Re: Calling a function from a button on a Dialog component

                  One final question...when I call an action from a onClick event, I've used the following code: {dialog.object}.runAction('createCSF');

                  Now that I've created an Xbasic function, what is the code that needs to be inserted in the onClick event that will call the Xbasic function?

                  Thanks for all your help. It is very much appreciated.

                    here is how to do the xbasic function

                    incidentally the data submitted is not the same as i said earlier.
                    you use debug to see all the e object.
                    it will be e.dataSubmitted something like that
