Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Passing Values From Grid to other grid

    dear all ,

    i need your help since three days i am in this problem as the following :

    i build simple application -------- > grid with ( ID (auto number ) , Naem , Location , Button ( Copy ) )
    suppose that i have 3 rows in the grid when i preview the from

    ID Name Location
    --- ------ ---------
    1 Abc UK (Copy)

    2 Efg USA (Copy)

    3 Hij FR (Copy)

    when i press the Button Copy for the first row i need to pass the values of the name and location to another grid ( Linked by the ID Only )
    i need to pass the ABC and UK to the new form with the same grid but ( Add Record Only form )

    please help if i can use session or any alternative solution

    Re: Passing Values From Grid to other grid

    I'm not entirely sure from your explanation what you are trying to do. If you are truly trying to copy a record, you can make the copy using Xbasic commands on the same grid.

    If you pass the ID, there is no reason to pass any other values, because you can look those up from the ID.

    If you are linking two grids, you can simply link them by the ID, effectively passing it to your other grid.

    Don't know if any of that is making sense - I could try to help more, but I really need more detail about what you are trying to do.

      Re: Passing Values From Grid to other grid

      thank you for your reply

      If you are linking two grids, you can simply link them by the ID, effectively passing it to your other grid.

      what i am trying to do is to take the value of the cell in the grid through in-line jave

      window['var']={grid.object}.getValue('G','NAME',{grid.rownumber});

      in this wind variable i store the value of the name field what i need to show this value in new form and to make it the default value for the grid field name in the form 2

      i am sorry but my english is not good please let me know if you need more explanation

      i tried the session but its not working with me

        Re: Passing Values From Grid to other grid

        i hope this will clear the issue

        i have 2 forms

        form1 and form2

        both the 2 forms have the same grid fields

        i need to get the values from form1 ( grid ) and to to assign these values direct to the grid in form 2 i don't need linking between the 2 forms only i open the form2

        the reason for this if i link the fields through the linking actoin script i cannot update the data in form2 even if i change the values in field 2

            Re: Passing Values From Grid to other grid

            tihs code is working good with me in form 1
            window['x_var1'] = {grid.Object}._getValue('G', 'DSSETNAME', {Grid.RowNumber});

            in form 2 i use this in OnGridRender event

            {Grid.Object}.setValue('NAME',x_var1);
            but this is not working in form2

            but note that in form 2 i make alert(window['x_var1']) and its showing the value correct but i cannot assign it to the grid :(
