Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Editing User Security - Doesn't work on a5w page

    Hi,

I have an edit user grid where it shows a few field and has a "Click to edit" button where a dropdown appears with ALL the fields as well as the security values for whatever user you choose. It works fine on Working Preview but once I insert component onto an A5W page and I try to do it on localhost it won't work.

When I click "Click to Edit" button, which is linking the table with personal information to the Security Values by Username it goes to http://xxx/xxx/username and obviously gives the error of no page exists.

Am I missing something here? I am a Front & relatively new Back end developer but this is my first time using Alpha 5 upon request. So I apologize if it's super obvious.

I'm not sure what you are doing. I would say either use the Dialog2 security controls to manage security. You can link the dialog2 to user tables if you like. OR, if you are sticking w. grids make sure you are carefully using the security functions properly.

        Hi Matt,

Just a thought: in the grid, on the field properties, make sure that "Link address type" is NOT set to "Field value is link address". I had a similar problem (not exactly the same) and that was the problem.

Hi Scott, thanks for the tip! That solved the one problem and now the dropdown appears and populates values and it is editable.

HOWEVER, if you click ANOTHER username then it does not display the security values. So first time you click all is perfect, second time you click any username the security values are not populated... hmm

As I said before I followed this :

I have the same problem - it all works fine in working preview. The grid used to open the security user editing UX is displayed in a tabbed ui. When I click the hyperlink it just displays "working" in the UX. I have tried with userid field as the hyperlink and a simple hyperlink that displays "Click to edit".
Also just following the video http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...ingADialog.swf but I am using AA

              Hi Garry,
Check your connection string first and then your bindings.
Ensure that your controls are data-typed correctly (checkbox -> Logical -> tinyint)
Try your query in an editor like Navicat. That's how I catch most of my gotchas.

                Connection string ok.
Maybe I need to step back.
Has anyone used this in AA from a tabbed ui and have it working successfully?

may be because it is in working preview, security is not enabled in working preview not even in live preview. if you want to test run I would suggest publish and test it in real life. make a dummy group like "dummy group" and add edit delete users in that group. if you do not like to do that then you may declare all values at the dialog initialize event and test run. and delete the assignments prior to publishing.
                  thanks for reading

You can test security in localhost.

Well great news. I deleted the component and started again and it is working.
I must have made an error somewhere.
So to summarise the component is called from a grid in a tabbed ui in AA and works exactly as it should.
