Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Application server V11 and upgrading

I have experience a problem with A5 V11 projects now I have IE 11 which I am led to believe renders it almost impossible to edit and create A5 pages.

here is my question, if I upgrade to the new alpha anywhere development tools to do my development work, and then edit and update and existing project, deploy it to my clients server which is running Application server for V11, will the site work or will it be broken?

will my client have to upgrade his application server licence?

Thank you for any help on my questions above.

Re: Application server V11 and upgrading

You may get away with it, but it is normally a bad idea to use a newer development environment and deploy on an older app server. You can find tons of posts on this forum where the problem was a simple mis-match between the development version and the app server version. However, really, if you are very minimal in your updating the application it may work perfectly.

It is internet explorer 11 and alpha incompatibility.
You can roll back to ie10 to develop and deploy. Once it out there it will work, I do not know for how long.
For whatever reason if you decide to go to version 12 then in my opinion both was and your program need to be in the same version for safety. That means your customers need to spend more money this year and years to come.
This has been a constant complaint in this forum, if alpha changes their price policy lots of people will be happy.

Yes this is a bit of an issue for the client and unless the site has a true value to add to the business there maybe a reluctance to upgrade. i have also had a problem with data not getting updated in an Access database for one client so my guess is they will abandon the project now rather than pay for the upgrade.

          Thank you for your reply.

How about just steering them away from IE. Works with Chrome! Clients just want it to work don't they?

I don't tell clients it doesn't work with IE. I say it works best in Chrome!

my problem is i can not edit or update or create A5W pages so i can not support their installation. it is not a question of it working on their systems or not. Also with 100 employees some working from home etc its not practical to tell people not to install IE11 especially as it comes with automatic updates.

              Thank you for your suggestions.

There is a letter from Alpha Software on the messageboard posted that problems have been identified with IE11 in combination with dthml editor activeX control and the developer version. The advice is to use by example IE10 or Firefox. Reduced version With production there would be no problems for end users mentions writes Alpha Software. Making changes using a V12 developerkit and publish to version eleven production environment inevitably leads to severe problems for a reason Alpha stressed that development and production version should always be to avoid mistakes right and that applies not only to Alpha Software.

Mark, I don't mean to be rude, but it seems to me that you are making a mountain out of a molehill.
To my knowledge, your users remain unaffected by this IE11 issue.
It is only your development computer (one single computer) that is affected.
The solution: use a Windows operating system <= Win8.0
Buy a cheap computer if you have to.
If your client abandons the project, it would be due to your reluctance to use a different computer on which to do your development work.

I'd like to reiterate again, there is no problem with deployment, so your 100 employees can run IE11 and have no problem. You, the Developer, need to have a non-IE11 machine to do your work if you want to use Alpha Five V11 or earlier. You can't tell me it is not possible for you to run one non-IE11 machine for your development work. Many of us support clients who are using A5V8,9,10,11 in addition to 12, so we have to maintain a non-IE11 machine or drop those clients.

Now, at the same time, I (we all) do recognize this as a problem. We Developers cannot run a non-IE11 machine forever, eventually we won't be able to purchase a new computer with IE10. But for the next few years, that's the way it is.

I would be willing to bet money that someone in the community will provide a patch to Windows, or IE11+ or A5V12 that resolves the problem for all of us. If you Google "IE11 dthml editor incompatible" you find that others are in a pickle as well.
