Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    **$$$ Reward Offered**

My employers Alpha Five 11.5 driven website crashes at least once per a day and has to be restarted by AlwaysUp. Often, even though AlwaysUp restarts the A5AppServer, the site is still unreachable via HTTP. I then have to stop\restart the WAS numerous times until it is back up and reachable.

I can't fix it, I don't know how too, I've tried everything I can think of. Have gotten some suggestions on here but to no avail.

I am looking for an A5 Expert to troubleshoot and help me fix this.

I do know that there is some sort of memory issue... as the A5AppServer builds to a GB of memory usually within 12- 16 hours.

    Any takers?

    Cheers,
    Steve

I don't have time, but wish I could help. But I do want to confirm to you that this is certainly not normal. Your observation re: the memory use is likely important; it is not normal usage. I presume you're using the latest/last build on your server, and that you also used that same build version on your development environment to publish.

Steve - I believe I have weighed in on this several times, and I am sure the reason is still the same.

Steve, I know we discussed this many time but problem still exists. I truly don't know how to fix this. It is becoming a nightmare for me, it was working great for first year or so.. but I guess something I did caused this.

          Re: **$$$ Reward Offered**

Last time I saw your server, the problem was the memory would creep up over a day or so, then max out. The things I say contributing to this were:

          - tons of hits by search engines or rogue spiders = tons of page refreshes
          - tons of images that have to be opened for every page visit.
          - You are showing 50 records on each page, each with multiple images. And with a link that opens a photo gallery with a lot of images each.

Plus you were running two separate websites on the same machine (one Canada based, one USA based).

I know you moved the images off to a separate server, but I am not sure that makes any difference.

Its been a while since I have seen the server, but I bet you would benefit by running multiple instances of Alpha Five. You definitely need to analyze the A5 traffic logs to see where the hits are coming from, and the total volume. The static images should be put on a CDN.

You need to stop all unwanted hits on your server. That means adding a firewall to block any country you are not interested in, and other measures.

There are also a bunch of Javascript libraries being opened on each page, one in particular that is very large. Need to investigate it all.

If the problem has increased over the years, it is probably because your site has become better known by all of the search engines and other spiders and the traffic has increased.

Yes, latest builds on both ends. Another issue, maybe related, is that when i could publish a files or files to the Alpha crashes and i have to restart the A5AppServer numerous times until the website is reachable. Once upon a time this did not happen and the process worked just fine.
