Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: looking for advise for duplicate a sales order record

this is an interesting thread. I see in my business many times there is a button to reorder previous order and there is a position to alter previous order or cancel without proceeding, if change my mind.
the examples in this thread seems to create the duplicate without any option of cancelling. ( I could be wrong.)
      I am thinking..
is it better to create a temporary table and populate a single record and dependent child, modify whatever needs to be modified and update the master table only if wanted to continue or discard the temporary table?
      thanks for reading

Re: looking for advise for duplicate a sales order record

The code is in javascript, the duplicate is in memory, you can edit before you submit. You do not need to submit.
If you look at a program like "Inflow" it creates a duplicate for every edit, this gives a full audit trail.
The downside is disk space and speed.
So it is very much horses for courses.

Might this be what you are looking for (if you can use a dialog)

            {dialog.object}.newRecord({cloneExisting: true, fieldsToNotCopy: 'INVOICE_NUMBER','CUSTOMER_ID'});

              Ger

If this creates a new record, will the primary key be available to bind to the repeating section child records?
The problem I have had trying to answer this thread is populating the repeating section, I could not find a way of "automating" it, instead I opted to loop the original record set.
Can this function be used in the parent child set up?

Re: looking for advise for duplicate a sales order record

                Hi Michael,

I don't know and and haven't the time right now to figure it out..
But as so often i do something the way i can instead of figuring out what is sometimes the perfect way.

My use case was a function for countersales of different articles for the same customer.
So i created a dialog with 2 tabs
1e tab. Create new record, one at the time (with the dialog.newrecord() method)
2e tab list of created records (embedded grid) with possibility to search / filter / edit records created

For my use case this works as a charm....

                Hope this helps

Re: looking for advise for duplicate a sales order record

I have a dialog with 2 repeating sections where I give the user the option to copy/duplicate the current record. I currently use XBasic to do this along with the populate Javascript method, but I'm interested in Ger's option and will check it out for the next dialog I do that requires this.
