Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Page Redirect

    Hi All

    Can anyone perhaps assist me in pointing me in the right direction.

    I have a page that has a few grids on.

    I want to redirect the user away from this page when opening it if one of the grids has a field already populated.

    My page is used to input data but once it has been checked and signed off the "qc_date" field is populated. It is this field that I wish the page to look for and if it is populated then redirect the user to another page so that no more edits can be made.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Peter

    Re: Page Redirect

    If this is an A5W page, then add code to the very top of the page that redirects based on the value in the table for the desired filter (that is what you mean by "grid has field populated").

    At the top of the page (assuming DBF):

    <%a5
    if lookup(tablename,filter,field) = somevalue
    response.redirect("differentpage.a5w)
    end if
    %>

      Re: Page Redirect

      Hi Steve

      Thank you for the reply.

      I am using SQL server so have modified the code slightly.

      I am trying to get the page to redirect if the field is blank.

      Really stupid question, I know! but what would I put in the "NOT SURE" section?

      <%a5
      cn = "::name::Connection1"
      table = "estimate_header"
      filter = "report_no = '" + session.report_no + ""
      field = "qc_by"
      if sql_lookup(cn,table,filter,field) = "NOT SURE"
      response.redirect("my_new_page.a5w")
      end if
      %>

      Your help is really appreciated.

      Thank you

      Peter

        Re: Page Redirect

        I think you are just checking for a non NULL value, right? So it can be any of these:

        if sql_lookup(cn,table,filter,field) <> "" '--for text
        if sql_lookup(cn,table,filter,field) > 0 '--for numeric
        if sql_lookup(cn,table,filter,field) <> .t. '--for logical (BIT in sql server)

            Re: Page Redirect

            Hi

            I am using the following code at the top of my page:

            <%a5
            cn = "::name::Connection1"
            table = "estimate_header"
            filter = "report_no = '" + session.report_no + ""
            field = "qc_by"
            if sql_lookup(cn,table,filter,field) <> ""
            response.redirect("my_new_page.a5w")
            end if
            %>

            When opening the page I am getting the following error:

            500 Internal Server Error
            Script Error
            Error:Could not execute lookup query. Reported error: Error parsing SQL statement
            line 1:64: expecting "", found 'EOF'

            Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this error?

            Thank you

            Peter

              Re: Page Redirect

              At the top its:

              dim cn as sql::connection
              cn.open("::name::connection1")

              less important but at the bottom need to add:

              cn.close()

                Hi Steve

                Thanks once again for your reply.

                I have added the lines that you suggested but am still getting the same error.

                  Re: Page Redirect

                  At this point it is just a syntax problem.

                  You have: filter = "report_no = '" + session.report_no + ""
                  Should be: filter = "report_no = '" + session.report_no + "'"
