Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grid Checkbox Column and Row Data

    After multiple rows are checked in a grid checkbox column, I want to copy those rows to another table using an ajax callback.
    What is the best way to go about this?
    How do I access each row's data for the copy?

      Thanks, the video helped. #88 was also helpful.
      I have another issue though that involves a textbox... Untitled-1.gif
      I'm making an ajax callback to process the row, but the textbox never gets picked up by (e)... callback.gif

      Code:
      function ProcessSelected as C (e as P)

      	dim js as C
      	dim i as N
      	dim selectedCount as N
      	dim rowNum as N

      	dim skillsid as C
      	dim categoryid as C
      	dim fieldData as N

      	'Get number of selected records
      	selectedCount = e.checkboxRows.countChecked

      	'Process key field values of selected rows
      	for i=1 to selectedCount
      		categoryid = eval("e.checkedRows.key" + i + "[1]")
      		skillsid = eval("e.checkedRows.key" + i + "[2]")

      		rowNum = e.checkboxRows.rows[i] '*** I can get the row number
      		fieldData = e._currentRowDataNew.yearsexp '*** how do I get this value?

      	next

      	js="alert('Selected Records Processed');"

      	' Return javascript code to be executed after callback (optional)
      	ProcessSelected  = js

      end function

        Re: Grid Checkbox Column and Row Data

        I am not sure..
        is this some kind of an applicant filling it in
        they will check the box and fill in the years as an applicant will do
        normally the way I see all the grid data will be available and you check to select certain rows only.
        this looks different!

          Re: Grid Checkbox Column and Row Data

          Yes, the applicant fills in the years after (hopefully) checking the box.
          Afterward I want to send that row(s) to another table.

          Maybe I'm going about it all wrong. I don't really see the need for checkboxes if YEARS is dirty, but getting the field dirty isn't an exact science from my viewpoint.

              why don't you use a dialog to gather information and submit the information?

                Re: Grid Checkbox Column and Row Data

                I tried a dialog but could not get the repeating section to populate based upon a filtered column that is not the primary key.
                I finally settled upon this which works nicely but I want to remove the dead space above the embedded grid: space.gif

                To help others, here is the xbasic code:
                Code:
                function ProcessSelected as C (e as P)

                debug(1)
                	dim skillname as c = e._currentRowDataNew.skillname
                	dim skillsid as n = convert_type(e._currentRowDataNew.skillsid,"n")
                	dim years as n = convert_type(e._currentRowDataNew.yearsexp,"n")
                	dim reg_number as n = 999

                	dim cn as SQL::Connection
                	dim rs as SQL::ResultSet
                	dim args as SQL::Arguments
                	dim sqlStatement as c
                	cn.open("::name::adam")

                	sqlStatement = "INSERT INTO jobskills (SKILLSID, SKILLNAME, YEARSEXP, REG_NUMBER) VALUES ({skillsid}, '{skillname}', {years}, {reg_number})"
                	sqlStatement = evaluate_string(sqlStatement)
                	if cn.execute(sqlStatement)=.f.
                		save_to_file(sqlStatement + "|" + cn.callresult.text,"c:\a5\logs\grd_Skill_Survey.txt")
                	end if

                end function
