Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dialog - How to write a business rule and pass it to a table (web project)

    I have a dialog that is bound to a table. It comprises a number of drop downs. One drop down question is 'how deep do you dive'. The drop down responses are <=100' and >100'. I want to write a business rule that says someting like 'If >100' then refer file to underwriter for review'. So I guess I add a new field (logical) to the table called 'ReferToUnderwriter'. Then on the dialog somewhere I need to add some code that says 'If HowDeep.Value >100' Then ReferToUnderwriter = True'

    How do I do this? I am quite familiar with VBA (Access) but cant figure where to start solving this is A5. I have read many tuts and watch videos but still not sure where even to start. Hope you can help.

    Thanks

    You can have the ReferToUnderwriter field conditionally shown or hidden by going to that field's Field Properties Client-Side Show/Hide Expression. If there is an expression entered, the field will only be displayed if the expression evaluates to true. Double-click the field to bring up info about it as well as field names, etc.

    You would likely also want to run validation to require that field if the prior field had a particular value selected. You can find validation options in the Field Properties as well.

      okay, this is how I will do it.
      the dropdown for the depth which is a numerical field and the choices are:
      <=100|1
      >100|2
      then there is another field that is policy to review which is character field.
      now on the onChange event of the depth, I will run a inline javascript as follows

      Code:
      var depth = {dialog.Object}.getValue('DEPTH');
      if (depth == 2) {
      {dialog.Object}.setValue('POLICY','Refer to underwater Policy');
      }

      // the following is not really needed, but it is there should you select the >100, then go back and change your mind to <=100 the field will clear out.
      if (depth == 1) {
      {dialog.Object}.setValue('POLICY','');
      }
      thanks for reading

        Thanks for both responses. Think I am going try work Gandhi's suggestion. Have used show/hide, an excellent tool but was thinking not to create any controls on the dialog for this exercise. Seems I should be be able to take the user response and if >100' then send the string "refer to underwriter' the the field 'ReferToUnderwriter' in the table. So the response triggers a string and the string gets saved to the db - there is no evidence that this is happened on the dialog. How do I do this? In Gandhi's code do I need a control on the dialogue or does the binding alone create the linkage. Will try figure it out... thanks

          Actually maybe it's not a bad thing to have a hidden control on the dialog - it does not take space so maybe this will work.
          Instead of scuba have worked on a dialog called 'asthma' and on it placed a control called 'refer' (C). Also have a field in the db called 'refer' and the control is mapped to the db field. Then placed this code on the OnChange event of FirstAsthma, but get a script error ... on the right track I think

          var FirstAsthma = {dialog.Object}.getValue('AsthmaFirst');
          If (FirstAsthma == '0-3 months' ) {
          {dialog.Object}.setValue('Refer','Refer to Underwriter');
          }
