Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Programmatically Hide a field

    Hi Andy,

So that's where I get access to the Hide property! Cool. Hard coding it works great but like you say, still more to be done. I hope you will allow me to post further if I need some more help. This is great. Thanks so much.

      Re: Programmatically Hide a field

I'd thought of allowing them to choose which fields to export by adding another field and then using the ShowHide expression but that will still export the field
I just happened to see this thread and noticed in your first post you said this. isn't there a property that says export including hidden fields, if you uncheck this property, does the action still exports the hidden field?

        Re: Programmatically Hide a field

        Hi Gandhi,

Yes, it still exports the fields. The Hide property has to be checked, if it's checked then the fields do not get exported but the ShowHide expression, whether true or false still exports the field. Somehow the Hide property has to be checked.

        Thanks

          Re: Programmatically Hide a field

I did a crazy experiment, tried to simulate a grid and a dialog to filter the grid and then export to excel a few fields from that grid. I have unchecked the property that says export hidden fields too.
while it seems to be working, I have no way of knowing that it actually works since I do not have excel ( I don't have a need, I am a dinosaur)
if this is of any use, I will be glad.
if not, at least i gave a good shot on your behalf.

          corrections:
I said you can set no and show the field, it should have been set export and re-show the field if it was hidden.
I said xbasic code it should have been inline javascript code
the confirm, export buttons show the image because I have to use those buttons in this computer with windows 8.1 the regular button will crash alpha.
I should have removed the image. I wasn't paying attention.

              how?
I gave all instructions to build the components, too. it is a simple grid and simple dialog to match the grid.
also I showed how to code the buttons.
if you need any help on that let me know.
the grid component may not work on your computer with different connection string
if you like I can make another screencast building the component.

                Re: Programmatically Hide a field

downloaded excel viewer and looked at the file, it still includes the hidden fields.
will work on it to see what needs to be adjusted.

I'm still looking for some assistance on this one if anyone has any insights. GGandhi, I appreciate your work and I understand that your solution is proprietary. Since it doesn't specifically fit my scenario I can't justify your fee to share the solution.
