Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    hmac_hash() file not found error

    I am testing out the hmac_hash() function and I am getting errors. I am testing the examples listed on the Alpha wiki in A5v11 3788-4187

    Code:
    ?HMAC_HASH("my data", "my key")
    ERROR: Not an executable file
    Code:
    ?HMAC_HASH("my data", "my key", "HMACSHA1")
    This generates a file not found message box with the following text "HMACSHA1HashLib.dll".

    I found the following DotNet Example: Digital Hash. Which as a link to the HashLib.dll but no guidance on where it needs to be saved to. Also it references that this DLL will be shipped with version 11. I searched my harddrive and could not find it. So I saved it to the root of the A5v11 folder as well as to the "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319" folder and still received the same error messages.

    Is anyone using this function or know how to resolve these errors?

    Re: hmac_hash() file not found error

    FUNCTION HMAC_HASH as C(data as C, key as C, assembly_path as C, algorithm as C = "HMACSHA1")
    'debug(1)
    dim alg as C = upper(algorithm)

    'register .NET class
    dim sv as DotNet::Services
    dim assembly as DotNet::AssemblyReference
    assembly.FileName = assembly_path+"HashLib.dll"

    The sections in red look contradictory. Combining wrong arguments...

    Are you using the wrapper from the version 11? Did you create your own function?

    I tested in version 11 3381 4096 (earlier than yours...) WITHOUT making a function using the built in Alpha function, and it returns the hash.

    Alpha already made this function, and it works in v11 and v12. No need to create your own wrapper.

    Sorry if this makes no sense, but I'm between a lot of things right now.

      In other words, the arguments in your example don't correspond to a path, so "HMACSHA1" is being added to the DLL.

      You do not need a path with a registered DLL...

        Ok, I got it sorted. Had been following the .Net examples and named a function the same as the new built in one. Renamed my function and all is working.
