Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V11 Latest Build

I had to reinstall V11 server after my machine crashed. The build I have is 3381. I am getting several uncommon errors. What is the last or latest build and where can I get it?

    Thanks,

    Charlie

You must really be busy. The first link is to the last release notes for V11.
The 2nd link is to download the updates.

Charles, the V11 server is very much out of date and has known security issues that were fixed later on. You should not use it in a production environment.

Thanks Len for the heads up. I'm working on a very small app that doesn't present any security issues as it is informational only. Once I get parts of it running I may want to move it over to A12, however that's proving to be a hurdle at this point in time because of SQL problems. (I'm currently running dbf). Do you have anyone out there who I could employ for an hour or two to help me in A12?

                Charles,
What help do you need with sql, and which "flavor" of sql ?
I have some sql express abilities and get much better with mySQL.

Thanks! Well, here's the problem/issue. I have a very simple dbf file where I have about 100 names of various fish. Each one has a description which is in a memo field, so that's problem #1. Each fish also has two pics of it in an IMG field and that's big problem #2.

I tried MySql, but can't seem to get it to work, even after long tutorials and hours of study. Ideally, I'd like to have a simple grid list of the fish, where next to it on the page would go the description and the pics. I can do this in V11 desktop. Can't seem to get the grids to work in V11 server and I have no luck at all in V12. Any ideas, I'm all ears!!!

                  Thanks!

I don't see the fish themselves as a problem. Ditto for the images depending on how you have them associated with the fish.
The memo fields are my only concern, and there's usually a work around for those.
Feel free to call me at xxxxxxxxxx. I'm sure we can get you through this.

                      Hey Charles,
I wanted to get this in here before I forget.
                      https://fileproinfo.com/file-type/fpt=183.
I haven't experimented with it yet, but the fact that it mentions Alpha Five by name
                      seems encouraging to me.

Charlie, is this for fun or commercial?
I have built stuff for a fancy fish import/exporter awhile back.
Lots of options, some with SQL, and hosting cheaply yourself.
PM me for details once you have the tanks cleaned. I hate the green stuff!

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.
