Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Configuring WAS for Intranet Access Only

I'm sure the documentation exist but I am failing to craft the correct search terms ... I would like to configure an WAS for intranet access. I have experience setting up WAS for access via the internet and have domains pointed to various ZebraHost servers. But for this client they only want their web app to be accessible on their local network. In this case I have made these assumption and I have these questions:

    1. No domain will be needed, correct?
    2. Desktop shortcuts would just need to point to the local IP address and Port that the WAS is installed on, correct?
    3. Port 80 appears to be in use on the server that I have installed the WAS on as the WAS was unable to bind to it. I'm assuming the IIS probably has a hold of it. I would like to use Port 81 in this case. Does anyone have an words of wisdom on opening up access to Port 81 for just intranet traffic?

Thank you in advance for anyone's help,

    CPGood

setting up intranet is not difficult at all.
1> no domain needed. just put your server in one of the computer and make that as a server for intranet traffic.
2> you can make the home page the intranet page and the desktop will open the bowser and it will go to the intranet by default.
3> just go to webserver configuration and change the port to 81 that is all needed.
4> they can access the intranet from outside too if they want.
5> go to the server computer a open up terminal and type ipconfig and note the address
then add port number and you are set to go from any other computer in the network.
(if they want to access from outside the you have to enable port forwarding)

Re: Configuring WAS for Intranet Access Only

      Hi Gandhi,

Thank you for your reply. Looks good but I want to clarify one item .... on your item #2 please let me know a little more about this. Are you talking about the page you indicate in your "publisher" settings as the home page? Or are you talking about the page you specify in the "config" area of the WAS as the home page? or are you talking about creating a shortcut on the user's desktop that points to this page on the server?

      Thank you for the clarification,
      CPGood

Re: Configuring WAS for Intranet Access Only

        nope.
go to your browser and open the page you want in your alpha five, then go to internet options in the browser, and in the general section you can set this page as home page.
so whenever the browser opens it opens to that location.
then all you have to create a shortcut to open the browser, it will go to your alpha page as home page.
