Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error Unknown.

    Hi All,

    I'm have a xbasic function code which I'm running on an OnClick event.

    On checking with debug(1) the function is through and result is fine in expected way.

    But whenever I'm returning from debug it gives me the error & it will not assign the result to the grid field which I'm setting.

    The error is like "An error occured in the script on this page"
    Error: expected ","

    Kindly help me to resolve this.

    Regards,
    Syed Irfan Ahmed

    Re: Error Unknown.

    Can you post the function so we can see the code?

    At the very least, we need to see the last few lines where the data is being returned.

    Also, in debug, you know you can see the variable values? You should check the value of the return variable just before you send it maybe there is an issue with it.

        Re: Error Unknown.

        What you need to understand is that when you use a function this way, you must return javascript in the function. You can't say, for instance:

        num2words = "fifty-five"

        That doesn't work, because num2words is expecting javascript.

        To get your function work, dim a value such as

        dim numvalue as c

        Then use numvalue everywhere in the function that you have used num2words.

        That will fix your code and make it work. Final num2words function included, below. (it works for me!)

        Code:
        FUNCTION num2words AS C (e as p )
        	debug(1)
        dim	pubdebt as C = e._currentRowDataNew.Amount
        dim spellit[9] as c
        dim numvalue as c
        spellit[1]="Dollars"
        spellit[2]="Thousand"
        spellit[3]="Million"
        spellit[4]="Billion"
        spellit[5]="Trillion"
        spellit[6]="Quadrillion"
        spellit[7]="Quintillion"
        spellit[8]="Sextillion"
        spellit[9]="Septillion"

        pubdebt=strtran(pubdebt,"$","")
        pubdebt=strtran(pubdebt,",","")

        if at(".",pubdebt,1)= 0 then
            pubdebt=pubdebt+"."
        end if

        if round_up((at(".",pubdebt,1)-1)/3,0)>0 then
            for n = round_up((at(".",pubdebt,1)-1)/3,0) to 1 step -1
            	if n*3 = (at(".",pubdebt,1)-1) then
            	    numvalue = spellitout(left(pubdebt,3)) +" "+ spellit[n]+crlf()
           else if   n*3 > (at(".",pubdebt,1)-1) then
           			numvalue=spellitout(left(pubdebt,3-((n*3)-(at(".",pubdebt,1)-1))))+" "+spellit[n] +crlf()
           else if	 n*3 < 	(at(".",pubdebt,1)-1) then

           			numvalue = numvalue+" "+spellitout(left(right(left(pubdebt,at(".",pubdebt)-1),n*3),3))+" "+spellit[n]+crlf()
            	end if
          '  	num2words()
            next
        end if

        if len(pubdebt)-at(".",pubdebt,1)>0 then
            if len(pubdebt)-at(".",pubdebt,1) = 1 then
                numvalue = numvalue+" and "+ spellitout(alltrim(str(val(right(pubdebt,1))*10)))+" cents"
            else
            	numvalue = numvalue+" and "+ spellitout(substr(pubdebt,at(".",pubdebt,1)+1,2))+" cents"
            end if
        end if
        numvalue= strtran(numvalue,crlf(),"")

          Re: Error Unknown.

          If this is a callback, then I think your other option might be to return javascript code which sets the grid field.

          Replace last line:
          e._set.Amount_Words.value = num2words
          with something like:
          num2words = "{grid.object}.setValue('G','LASTNAME',{grid.rowNumber},'" + num2words + "');"
