Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

desktop data viewed on web based viewing

We are a small start up company.

I have an enterprise desktop application on a multi-user application on a company server based on A5V10.

One component is materials inventory. We have three partner companies that I need to have the capabilities for them to see our current materials inventory. The materials inventory is managed in the desktop tables. I would like to have the ability for these other partner companies able to see the current inventory. I would like to have them able to go to a web site to view the current inventory. View only. Having them log in to the company server and view the data is not an option.

We have a web site. Messagewrap, com. What might be a strategy to have the desktop data posted or delivered to a web based something for web site viewing of the desktop data?

I have posted this in the desktop and web forums. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

does this mean you do not have web application server?
mike, i know you are an experienced developer, well versed on desktop side. i am only asking since i vaguely remember you mentioning that you did not get web application server.
i could be wrong in that, so i am asking.

As per Mr G, I am not clear as to your setup. Perhaps you could do what I do. I have an SBS server and also a separate PC/Server just for my WAS, where I host my website. My website is not too busy so it works fine with me hosting. Obviously I am then able to give my users access - or restrict their access - as I see fit, via Alpha WAS security; and th eusers come in via the website and do not access my SBS server.

From the information you have provided, the solution appears quite straightforward, but I'm guessing this might not be the case...

Re: desktop data viewed on web based viewing

        Hi all,
Sorry, out for a couple of days. I have no WAS. I do not do any web development. Our company server is in the office with internal desktop network and accessed through RDP connections remotely. Our company website is hosted elsewhere built on WordPress.

All partners need to see the same inventory. We order the materials and the inventory is created by one partner, and shipped to and used by the other. INY.00020.A, INY.00020.B, INY.00020.C, each ~70" x 100 to 300 linear ft. Which rolls to use for a particular order is based on knowing the inventory. The starting and ending circumferences of rolls for a Job tells us the materials used for the Job and the remaining inventory on the roll assigne to that job. Batch inventory updates daily, not real time. Inventory is linear ft and sqft of material on the rolls in inventory. It's and end of day posting. Public does not see it!

Don't know if that helps towards a solution.

the easiest will be to obtain a a5v10 web server from people who have migrated to newer versions and use that to post real dynamic data with few read only grids, accessing your database in real time.
if that is not possible,(i am no expert on the wordpress sites), you may be able to upload excel sheets to wordpress site daily at night time or look into custom website data plugin. that might help to load the data to the wordpress site.
again, i want to tell you this is not from my experience but by searching the internet.
          thanks for reading
