Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: dual monitors - lockup problem

Yes I remember that from previous computer however I know that it did not resolve the problems with menus opening off-screen (only dialogs). This is something peculiar to Alpha Five and a few other isolated Apps.

I suspect it has something to do with use of windows API.

My NVIDIA works well most of the time. But all i can say is thank god for the CSDA Code Utility Pro.
When i do get a lock up. It (CSDA) has saved me tons of time.

btw has anyone put together any ALPH5 Applications settings for the NVIDIA Application setting tab.

Re: dual monitors - lockup problem

Thought I would chime in since Steve is so good a responding to all my issues.

I run dual display setup on a Dell D630 laptop with a docking station. One monitor is connected digitally and the other analog(because the docking station only has one of each). Both run 1680x1050 resolution even though one is 22" and the other 19".

The video card is NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M and driver is dated 4/28/07.

            Windows XP Pro SP3

I typically use Alpha5 on the left monitor which is heads up for me and other apps like Outlook on the right.

While I have had my share of issues with A5V9 lately, I have only had one freeze up and that was on a different system with a single monitor after trying to insert a word document via OLE into a report layout. Possibly my other issues with file corruption and disappearing reports and letters in control panel is related. Updating video driver now!

            Best,

Thanks for the mention. I wish more would realize how much the time savings add up with the utility (even if you just use the save and restore desktops features).

And whether I'm crashing Alpha while testing it's limits or making what ends up as an infinite loop, it saves me having to reload everything!

<Rant on>But until others realize the cost savings of this and other utilities from others, you won't see the 3rd party add-ins market for Alpha 5 growing much. E.g. I have
              • barcoding functions that make it easy to incorporate it into A5,
              • a 3 times faster SORTSUBSTR() function compatible replacement (with enhanced features)
              • 200x faster Geo-coding functions (than typical coding) to find things like offices near you
and so forth, that will never come to be generally available without the 3rd party market growing.<Rant off>
              Regards,

Maybe we can start a website or someone might already have one where we can share ALpha5 Vx add-ons.

Not quite sure. But apparently women agonize over getting just the right colour. And shortly after that money disappears from your bank account.

and it seems to repeat itself each and every year...Yeah I know---am probably lucky it only occurs this seldom...but considering I have 12 rooms that means basically once a month in my house. :D
