Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    E-Commerce Application

    Dear experts,

    I'm new in development with A5 and, particulary, with Alpha E-Commerce Application. Now I'm trying to create an application with payment possibility. As I understood the main function used for this purposes is AuthorizeNet_Transaction.Process(), which has a huge list of parameters. However, I didn't find a place where I could put such information about client credit card as CVS code (small 3-digits code on the back side of the card) and Card type (MasterCard, Visa, etc). Can you please kindly advise me what are the parameters for these values? Or I need to use some other function? In A5 help it is written that this function true result

    Indicates TRUE if the transaction server accepted the request and attempted to process the transaction. This return value does not indicate the success or failure of the actual credit card transaction.
    and it is a little bit confusing for me...
    Every help will be appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Olga

    Re: E-Commerce Application

    Hi Olga

    while i dont proccess any transactions with AuthorizeNet
    i can say that a card proccessor doesnt need to know the card type
    as it is part of the card number
    the first digits of the card give the the card type
    ie if a card started with "60" means a discover or novus card and
    if a card started with "37" would be an american express card

    AuthorizeNet_Transaction.Process() is a method of the AuthorizeNet_Transaction OBJECT

    please see the help files at
    http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp....Process().htm

    as you indicate the function returns success or failure of the transaction processing
    The process() method returns true or false to indicate success or failure of the transaction processing.This however does not indicate success or failure of the actual credit card transaction itself.
    but the method ALSO SETS properties of the object "AuthorizeNet_Transaction" one of which is another object "result" that has properties
    two of which are "response_code" and "Response_Reason_Text" and these
    hold the info as to whether the card was successfully authorized or declined
    and the reason

    the full processing of the response would be
    1st - did the process complete successfully t/f for AuthorizeNet_Transaction.Process()
    2nd if AuthorizeNet_Transaction.Process() was true
    then what was the response code
    (Authorize.Net defines response code 1 as "Approved")
    ('Authorize.Net defines response code 2 as "Declined")
    ('Authorize.Net defines response code 3 as "Error")
    3rd if the response code was "3" then what was the error

    this section of code pretty much explains how to proccess
    a credit card transaction using this method
    again from the help files
    http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp...UTCALC_A5W.htm

    Code:
    Process the transaction. x.process() will return TRUE if the transaction server accepted the request and attempted to process the transaction.

    'dim result_msg as C
    'result_msg = ""
    'if x.process()then '
    '    dim y as P
    '    y = x.result
    '    result_msg = y.Response_Reason_Text
    '    if (y.response_code = "1")     ' Authorize.Net defines response code 1 as "Approved"
    '       result_msg = ""
    '    elseif (y.response_code = "2")       'Authorize.Net defines response code 2 as "Declined"
    '       result_msg = "Transaction Declined"
    '    elseif (y.response_code = "3")       'Authorize.Net defines response code 3 as "Error"
    '       result_msg = "Transaction Error"
    '    end if
    'else 'if x.process()is false, the transaction server could not be contacted or did not respond in a timely manner
    ' result_msg = "Transaction could not be completed"

    'end if

    now as to the "CVS" code
    i believe that currently most proccessors use the terms
    "CVV" "CVV2" and "CID"

    and looking at AuthorizeNet's http://www.authorize.net/support/AIM_guide.pdf
    it says that for "CARD NOT PRESENT" transactions that
    this(CVV2) is an optional field - if you want to use this field then there is a link on pg 49 of the AIM_guide.pdf for further help
