Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web application reports using SQL data source

    I have a problem trying to filter data when uploading a report (created directly from a MySQL source) to my web application! I create my dialog component with the check boxes and drop down boxes i need etc and then begin using the after validate events. Using the print report genie i can create code that creates my report to print which is perfect, however, I wish to create a script that doesnt print the whole report, just the selected vaules (from one of the drop down boxes i create). This is easily done in the print report genie when using a report created from an alphafive table as it allows you to use filters, however as soon as i select my report that was created from a MySQL table, it doesnt allow me to select filters! I presume it can be done with the correct coding, so any help here would be great as its the only aspect i need to finish my web application!

    Doesn't the print report genie allow you to specify arguments? I can certainly specify them in the report print genie on the aftervalidate event of a dialog.

      I did think you had to use arguments, but i have no idea what arguments to use, if you could help me here it would be much appreciated! Il try to explain my dialog component... I have a drop down box that appears when a radio button button is selected, the drop down box contains a list of employee names (firstname + lastname), and i obviously want to print a report corresponding to the contact i select. I named the variable 'contact' what arguments should i be using that codes to print a report based on the contact i select? I don't think iv given enough information here so let me know

        Firstly, in the SQL data source definition of the report, go to "arguments" and specify the argument you want to use. If each employee name is unique, a character argument called employee would be good, otherwise use numeric and whatever ID field you have in that table.

        In the WHERE Clause for the SQL data source you then specify: nameofidfield=:employee OR :employee='0'

        This means that if you want ALL employees, you set the argument to 0, otherwise supply the ID of that employee....

        Right, then in the dropdownbox on your dialog, instead of just having the name fields you can specify to store a different value than you display - so check that box and select the unique ID field for the employee table as the field to be stored.

        Then in the aftervalidate event report genie, you type in the name of the dropdownbox control under variables, then for arguments you type employee and select the variable you just specified.

        If the filter is only to be applied when the box is checked, you also need to test the value of the radiobutton control as shown below.
        That SHOULD do the trick, at least it works for me with a quick test I just did - CSR in this case is a character variable populated from a dropdown:

        Code:
        If CurrentForm.Controls.Filter = "False" then
            CSR = "ALL"
        end if

        dim args as sql::arguments
        args.set("CSR",alltrim(CSR))
        Dim filename as c
        dim libfolder as c
        libfolder = a5_removetrailingbackslash(Request.ApplicationRoot) + chr(92)
        reportname = "Costs_by_CSR@" + libfolder + "ctracker.alb"
        filename = session.session_folder + "tempreport.pdf"
        filename = report.saveas(reportname,"pdf","","",filename,.f.,null_value(),args)
        if file.exists(filename)
        	currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" +  time("hms3")
        end if

              Re: Web application reports using SQL data source

              I have an issue that is close to what is showing in this thread. I have a web dialog component that I wish to use for a barcode label. I have setup the label in the main control area and have setup my arguments.
              Item
              VendorItem
              VendorRank
              LabelQty

              The LabelQty field is not in my data, but I wanted to set that argument as the print qty field under Label Options. I ran the report Genie on the dialog control, and I don't need to filter anything since my filter is built using the arguments on the label report. I do need however to pass the parameters from my dialog control to the report and I am having no luck. Also, I don't know how to setup the number of labels to print in the report and pass the number of labels from my dialog control to the report.

              If anyone could assist that would be great!

              My Dialog Code:
              IF eval_valid("Item") = .f. .or. eval_valid("VendorItem") = .f. .or. eval_valid("VendorRank") = .f. .or. eval_valid("LabelQty") = .f. Then
              goto skipreport
              end if
              dim args as sql::arguments
              args.Set("Item",alltrim(Item))
              args.set("VendorItem",alltrim(Vendor_Item))
              args.set("VendorRank",alltrim(Vendor_Rank))
              args.set("LabelQty",alltrim(LabelQty))

              dim filter as c
              dim order as c

              Order = ""
              Dim filename as c
              filename = session.session_folder + "tempreport.pdf"
              filename = report.saveas("ItemBarcode@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\lnktestitem.ddd","pdf",filter,order,filename,.f.)
              if file.exists(filename)
              currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
              end if
              skipreport:
