Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Check All in Grid

I'm out of ideas, and wonder if anyone has one.

I have a non-editable grid. Picture of the grid, and the html source code is attached here (redacted). The Member_ID is used as a hyperlink to the Detail section of the grid.

I need a button for the user to "Check All", and another later to "UnCheck All."

Two things really need to be achieved here:

    1) Checkboxes get filled in current view; and

    2) Fields get updated in table for records in current grid selection.

I think that if I could figure out how to display the Member_ID or record number like this: id="V.R1.MEMBER_ID" then I could use $gvs and $svs functions. But the non-editable nature of the grid seems to preclude that - the unique idenifiers that lead me to the member_ID just aren't there.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Check All in Grid

    Hi Steve,

Why not add a field to the table, called whatever you want, say, 'Select', and then use xbasic in the buttons to 'check all' or 'uncheck all'.

      Re: Check All in Grid

Make the grid editable. Make all the fields you want non-editable, individually non-editable. Add a calc field to represent the member id and show as lable. Make the actual member id Hidden. This way the unique identifiers will be present.

Other idea - if you really want to Select All (that is always ALL records), don't check anything off at all. Add a dialog with just a Select All button. Make that button grab the URL which will contain the search filter. Use that filter in xbasic to generate a list of matching records.

Other idea - (what I am going to do shortly for a client) - grab the URL as above, use it to select records in xbasic. Grab the 'records per page' value (not sure how yet) so I know how many records they were viewing per page. For every record in the query, save the unique ID and 'page number' to a new table. Example - query brings back 200 records and they are viewing 50 per page. I copy the unique ID to a new table for each record, plus a page number 1 for the first 50, 2 for the next 50 and so on.

Later they can view their selection in a different grid and Delete records they don't like. The end result is they will send email to the list in batches of approximately 50.

Last idea - in case you didn't know, you can use checkboxes created in calculated fields for your process that runs in the A5W table. They do not need to be physical checkboxes in the table.

        Re: Check All in Grid

Thanks Steve. Couldn't see the forest. I'll start with making it editable, then disable editing for most controls. That'll give me the ID I need for javascript.

Gary - the root problem is that an editable grid doesn't give all the information you need to identify the records with their DOM ID. That's why my initial graphic also showed the html -- no ID, and you gotta have one to do the stuff I need.
