Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Also, save yourself untold headache by not putting your projects in Documents and Settings, or any folder with embedded spaces. It may work, but there are areas where it will start to cause problems. As a rule of thumb, never, ever include a space in anything - table names, folders, project names, report names, field names, etc.

    My projects are simply in c:\a5\project1, c:\a5\project2, etc.

      Back again.

      Almost there, it still sends the email just not with the attached report. I think i may have took what you said to literal and did exactly that, so heres my code

      if CurrentForm.Controls.RadioButton = "1" then
      IF eval_valid("DropBox") = .f. Then
      goto skipreport
      end if
      dim args as sql::arguments

      Dim filename as c
      dim libfolder as c
      libfolder = a5_removetrailingbackslash(Request.ApplicationRoot) + chr(92)
      reportname = "Purchase Orders@" + libfolder + "complete design 2.alb"
      filename = session.session_folder + "tempreport.pdf"
      filename = report.saveas(reportname,"pdf","","",filename,.f.,null_value(),args)
      if file.exists(filename)

      If CurrentForm.Controls.RadioButton = "1" then

        Yep, very good advice! All my work is in c:\_WORK - the underscore makes it show at the top of the directory listing to boot :)

          Try putting the If CurrentForm.Controls.RadioButton = "1" then... and the "end if" around the report code...

                      Re: Email Button on a Web Page

                      hi ..

                      try the following.. you can use the alpha default_email_client in your web application without any issues as long as you set the email settings properly,
                      just take care of your SMTP & POP server settings and under "sending" tab "use same settings as my incoming mail server" option in the drop down box..

                      first section of the following is to make sure that you create a report using your designed template and the next section is to send the email.. in between you can add whatever database connection coding you want in order to get your email list or the subject or content of the message apart from the attachment..

                      you are going to attach the file that you are creating in the first section in the following lines..

                      IF eval_valid("event") = .f. Then
                      goto skipreport
                      end if
                      dim args as sql::arguments
                      args.set("eventno",alltrim(event))

                      Dim filename as c
                      dim rootfile as c
                      dim newfile as c
                      dim libfolder as c

                      libfolder = a5_removetrailingbackslash(Request.ApplicationRoot) + chr(92)
                      reportname = "YOUR REPORT@" + libfolder + "dashboard.alb"
                      filename = session.session_folder + "YOUR FILE NAME"
                      rootfile = filename
                      dim eventdescwithtime as c

                            Aside from anything else it is more flexible to use email_smpt_send because you don't have to rely on pre-configured profiles, you can spoof email addresses (e.g. allow people to email you with their email as the sender), add your own headers etc.
