Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Putting application on server

(i have already searched for this and read Susan Bush's Book)

Finally ready to put my application online however not sure if im missing something.

I put the application server onto a server computer and put in the licensing key, works fine. The area im stuck with tho is creating a profile to publish from. From the machine that the project is on im creating a profile to publish to the server.

In the 'publish to LAN' section i use the A5Webroot folder on the server so

\\Development\A5MyWebroot (development being the name of the servermachine)

When i try to publish it says folder doesnt exist (which it does) and then asks do i want to create it, if i click yes it says it fails.

Im obviously trying to publish to the server the complete wrong way so any help is appreciated

    Regards

    Re: Putting application on server

I suspect you haven't set up a network share on the a5data and a5webroot folders on the server, or if you do, you don't have admin rights on the server when logged in as you on your own pc...

      Re: Putting application on server

      Hey thanks for the reply

I have administrative rights and made the \\servercomputer\A5Webroot folder shared

and yet it still says that the A5Webroot folder does not exist?

        Re: Putting application on server

In your first post, you said "Development\A5MyWebroot". Is it \A5MyWebroot, or \A5Webroot? E.g. are you accidently trying to create A5MyWebroot?

SQL data doesn't transfer, it stays in the database!

I think you need to copy any named AlphaDAO connection strings to the LAN profile (under "Profile", go to "Named AlphaDAO Connection strings" and then click "Copy Default" for your connection - if it's an ODBC connection you will need to set up the ODBC connection in the ODBC manager on the server too, and install any drivers you had to install on the development machine & make sure the web server has access to the database server - if the database is hosted on the same box as the WAS you may have to change the connection string to point to localhost for example!) and then publish again, I have noticed before that

              Re: Putting application on server

Yeh sorry i know it doesnt what i really meant was that it wasnt accessing it

I did what you said and changed the AlphaDAO connection string to local host (as it was the name of the server) and it seems to be working perfectly thank you.

But once again another problem, the reports wont work as i keep getting the error message the session_folders can not be created. Might be something to do with access rights il have a search

                Re: Putting application on server

Just create a folder called session_folders in a5webroot, that should do the trick
