Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V8 to V9...Security Gone

Security worked in my V8 app but isn't with same app in V9.

-- Nav bars contain nodes that require login to be visible to the correct member. Worked in V8 not in V9 (See pic 3 & 4) The developer window pic (#3) is how it should look when a guest is on but right now the other nav bar (#4) is visible to the guest showing links that should be hidden!
-- .a5w pages that require login didn't allow guests to view them, now anyone can

    In V8, security worked.
Now since I upgraded to V9 there seems to be absolutely no security working on any of my pages.

I copied my V8 directory containing my dbf, a5w, a5wcmp and other files and pasted it under my new V9 directory, made sure security is enabled (see pics) and performed a full publish...several times. Same result.

This is all in localhost right now.

    I bet I'm missing something...

    Re: V8 to V9...Security Gone

[Whoops! I did not see the screenshots before I replied.]

I'm absolutely new to Alpha 5 and I seemed to have the same problem as I was going through one of the demos. My security was not working. After several tries and searching, I discovered that I needed to set the flag in the Application Server for the Security Framework. I don't know if Version 8 had that requirement; it may have been the default for that version.

    Hope this helps!

<<I copied my V8 directory >> Delete the guid.securitysettings file in both the v9 project and publish location. Republish anything, just one file for instance. That will recreate a new guid.securitysettings file. In copying, you duplicated that file, which needs to be unique.

        Hello Steve,
I followed your directions but it didn't work.
I then deleted guid.securitysettings and also the entire publishing directory. Same result. :(

          Re: V8 to V9...Security Gone

Now that I think of it, a guid.securitysettings problem would produce the opposite effect, no pages would work. You're missing something. Do you have both V8 and V9 servers running? Are you sure you are running your app under V9, and the security checkbox is checked? If security is on, the default condition, is all pages are blocked. If sec is off, the default is all pages are accessible.

If you put A5W_INFO() in to an A5W page and fire that up, you should get lots of details about your server, including if security is on or off. There is also A5WS_SecurityActive() which tells if sec is active.

Last, remember if it is localhost, the settings are under Tools > App Server, or Web > App Server.

Is it possible to have both app servers running at same time? Don't they use same ports?
How can you tell which app server is running?
Do my pics #1 & #2 show that I have security checkbox checked?

            I have Alpha Five/9.0 Build/1634-3197

A5W_INFO() gave me lots of info.
            Session.__protected__SecurityLevel is 0
This also says I have 2 processors when I in fact have 1
Didn't see where it specifically stated if security was active or not

Update: I stopped server...again and restarted it and now it seems to work.
Very tired. Will test more in the morning.

              Re: V8 to V9...Security Gone

The web security system in Alpha Five Version 9 was not changed from the Version 8 system in most areas. The only functional change was exposing the ability to set permissions on subfolders and files in subfolders.

What I should have done was
                • Web > App Server
                • Enabled Security Framework
                • Shut down server (if on)
                • Restart server

I noticed the message that after I clicked Enable Security Framework on my other computer, there was a message that any changes would not take effect until the server is restarted.
