Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Yes its done.by just adding one hidden control in HTML with name as the parameter :)

      How can i rename the file while uploading.im using the following code to do that.
      <%a5
      dim msg as c = ""
      dim oldfile as c
      dim newfile as c
      if eval_valid("cmd")
      newfile = recno + FileToUpload.filename
      file.from_blob("C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" + newfile, FileToUpload.data)
      msg = "<a href=\customerreport\"/" + newfile + "\" target=\"_blank\">" + newfile + "</a> was uploaded<br /><br />"
      end if
      %>
      but im getting this error,
      Error:Script: /LivePreview/cvreport.a5w line:80
      file.from_blob("C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" + newfile, FileToUpload.data)
      The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
      C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\1382 myfile.txt"

        Re: File Upload

        Don't try anything like this in the live preview, for starters.

        If you want to rename a file, file.rename() might be a start... read up on functions in the online help, there's plenty of info in there :)

          Thanks Andrea,

          i have this idea before, then i thought to try direct renaming first.it doesnt work out anyway.
          will try with file.rename :)

          <%a5
          dim msg as c = ""
          dim oldfile as c
          dim newfile as c
          if eval_valid("cmd")
          file.from_blob("C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" + FileToUpload.filename, FileToUpload.data)
          msg = "<a href=\customerreport\"/" + FileToUpload.filename + "\" target=\"_blank\">" + FileToUpload.filename + "</a> was uploaded<br /><br />"
          oldfile = "C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" + FileToUpload.filename
          newfile = "C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" +"customer" + FileToUpload.filename
          file.rename(oldfile,newfile)
          end if
          %>
          when i use text directly in this statement
          newfile = "C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" +"customer" + FileToUpload.filename

          my file renamed properly as customermyfile.txt
          but when i use variable here
          newfile = "C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" + customer + FileToUpload.filename
          its showing me the same error message as before.

          My complete code:
          <input type="hidden" value="<%a5 ? btnum %>" name="btnum"></input>
          <%a5
          dim msg as c = ""
          dim oldfile as c
          dim newfile as c
          dim customer as c
          if eval_valid("btnum")
          customer = eval("btnum")
          if eval_valid("cmd")
          file.from_blob("C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" + FileToUpload.filename, FileToUpload.data)
          msg = "<a href=\customerreport\"/" + FileToUpload.filename + "\" target=\"_blank\">" + FileToUpload.filename + "</a> was uploaded<br /><br />"
          oldfile = "C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" + FileToUpload.filename
          newfile = "C:\A5Webroot\CustomerReport\\" + customer + FileToUpload.filename
          file.rename(oldfile,newfile)
          end if
          end if
          %>

          500 Internal Server Error
          "Script Error

            Re: File Upload

            Put this debug code in the appropriate place to determine the values for your vars:

            save_to_file(oldfile,"c:\test1.txt")
            save_to_file(newfile,"c:\test2.txt")

            See if what you get in the txt files match what you are attempting to do. Will your OS allow you to save files with embedded spaces? Your newfile does have an embedded space.

                Re: File Upload

                Back again!

                In server webroot folder i have a folder named customer report and inside the folder im renaming all the customer uploaded report with id and report extension.
                Eg:
                when i upload a report named,Alphacustomerreport.doc
                am renaming it as 1234.doc

                that 1234 is some ID related to customer.
                once the upload done and page is ready to view, when user click the attached file
                im providing link as

                <a href="\Customerreport\">Attachment View</a> </p>
                \Customerreport\ here i can get that customer id 1234 and pass it in link..but wonder how to pass as 1234.doc along wit extension

                is there a way that i can able to view attached file by jus passing filename without extension , as how our OS search for file by jus giving part of file name.
                i can achieve this by storing in Databse, just trying to avoid it.

                Thanks for any help
                Thanks & Regards,
