Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    New App server help

I created a web app program on my computer and then published it to another web app server. I need to make so many changes now so I loaded the Alpha5 program on the other web app server. How do I get the all the files in one location so I can work on them and then publish correctly to the same sever now that I will not be publishing from my server?

    Thank you

Could you restate your question, I (and maybe others) can't quite figure out what you are asking.

Sorry about that. Ok, I have a program that I created and published on another server that only had the Web App software on it not the complete Alpha5 software. I have now installed the complete software and want to work on the files, how do I do that?

OK, I guess you copy all of the files from your old development machine to the server, if that is where you want to do your development. To get them there, you can use standard FTP, using a 3rd party FTP utility. You cannot use Alpha to move your development files somewhere.

Maybe you have a special situation, but normaly the server is for hosting the web app, and your local computer is for doing development work. Normally you would not move development files to the server. For one, there is no need, and second, you probably have to remote into your server using Remote Desktop or something, which will slow your performance while you work your application.

I need to work on the files on the web app server "not my server" because I have to make changes to the databases and reports all the time and I cannot wipe out the live data my client has already inputed.

If you have published the application to a server along with the database, then there is nothing else to move if you just want to manipulate the tables directly on the server. What I do in exactly the same situation is to create a dummy application, nothing to do with the real application. Your dummy app doesn't need to have any relationship with the tables you want to modify. Now, in this dummy app, click Files > Add Tables/Set. Select one or all of your live tables and "add them". It will not affect or move anything regarding your live application.

You can now open and modify the tables live (make a backup). Note that if you open a table or field rules live that any web user will get locked up if they happen to press Submit while you have the tables open.
