Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to find: "Error:line:6 Missing right parenthesis"

    500 Internal Server Error
    "Script Error
    Error:line:6 Missing right parenthesis"

When I publish to my local web server.
I've isolated the screen, but I don't know where to look for the error.

It's a phantom error message, there is no missing paren. Try republishing the A5W page and any components it contains. Be sure to clear the History first.

I just started Alpha5 fresh (first time today), started the server, published the entire project, and got the SAME error!

I only get the error when I start at a certain page. If I start at a different page, it works, till I go to that "error" page.

Go to the a5w page. Look at the source tab, and look as what is on line 6 - usually, this occurs when the fiilter is not quite right. Look at that and see if you can spot the error. Otherwsie, post that code here, so we can take a look.

I deleted the a5w page but not the components, recreated the page and Published all pages and components, and now it works!

          STRANGE!

Not really strange - Given what you describe, I'll bet you did something like deleted a component, but did not delete all pieces of it in the source tab, so that when you started with a new a5w page, and added components, you started fresh and therefore had no fragments sitting around.

I get this error, when I try to enter some text above the component on the screen. You know: the place where it says "Add components here". I find that, if I want to modify that text, I have to delete the page and recreate it.

              What a Pain!

drgarytraub: That's what it was, a code fragment that didn't get deleted, when I modified the page.

                Who knew?

                Thanx, for the help.

                  Hello

                  " 500-Internal Server Error"
                  "Error:line:6 Missing right parenthesis"

It is almost impossible to fix this! The server will work only with a new page. If you'll try to modify the page and to republish the page(s) you will get this "criminal" message! Anything you'll try, the result will be the same, please belive me!
                  WHAT IS THIS?
I hope we will be help by technical support from Alpha, because this it seems like a software bug.

Re: How to find: "Error:line:6 Missing right parenthesis"

This problem occurs under very limited circumstances, and the cause was therefore extremely difficult to isolate. The problem has been identified and a fix will be in the next release build.

To correct the problem until then, open the page with the problem in the HTML editor and switch to the source tab. Place the cursor at the end of any line and add a space. This makes the page "dirty" so it will save. Save the page by using the save icon on the toolbar or the save option from the menu. Do NOT just close the tab or editor to save.

The problem only occurs when editing in the WYSIWYG view and only after specific edits. The error was normally corrected when the page was saved. However, if the page was saved by closing the tab or closing the editor itself, the problem was not fixed and you get the error. The problem does not occur at any time if you save from the source view.
