Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Graphical Charts with Alpha tables

    Hello Everyone,

    Over the years I have wanted to place charts within my Alpha web applications. Unfortunately, and for whatever reason, I have never managed to achieve it.

    The time has come to take this functionality seriously and create my first chart. Can anyone confirm that SimpleChart Lite is shipped with Alpha 5v9 Platinum or do i need to buy something.

    Does anyone have any examples of charts created using Alpha data. Any coding would be a really useful starting point. It would be great to finally see my data displayed as a graphic.

    Thanks in advance,:)

    Re: Graphical Charts with Alpha tables

    Yes, Simple Chart Lite is included in Version 9. Attached is a picture of a chart created from Alpha tables using SCL.

    There is a sample in the sample web pages to show how to do it. In my case, I use three pages. The first contains a dialog to select the options to show. I store the selections, like date range, type of chart, etc in session variables and call the second page.

    The second page is the display page. The code in the body of that page is just:

    Code:

    </head>
    <body class="cmPageBODY">
    <p class="closer"><a href="javascript:window.close();">Close Window</a></p>
    <p>Start Date = <%a5 ?session.pareto.startdate %> End Date = <%a5 ?session.pareto.enddate %>
    Defect Code Choice = <%a5 ?session.pareto.defectcode %></p>
    <p><img src="dmrpnpar.a5w" />&nbsp;</p>
    </body></html>
    The third page is an Xbasic only page that creates the image shown in the second page. Code for that is shown below. This may do more than you may need since it orders the points from highest to lowest and cuts off the chart at 15 points.

    Code:

    <%a5
    '==== get crlf list of part numbers for all dmrs
    Dim vList as C
    vDateFilter=between_date("Dmr_Date",ctod(session.Pareto.StartDate),ctod(session.Pareto.EndDate))
    If session.Pareto.CausedBy = "All"
    vFilter=vDateFilter+" .and. .t."
    else
    vFilter=vDateFilter+" .and. Sp_Id = "+quote(session.Pareto.CausedBy)
    end if
    vList=table.external_record_content_get("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\dmr_log","alltrim(part_no)","",vFilter)
    vList=remove_blank_lines(vList)
    '==== get total number of elements
    dim vPNList as C
    dim vCount as N
    '==== get a crlf list of unique part numbers
    vPNList=word_unique(vList,crlf())
    '==== get the number of unique numbers
    vCount=line_count(vPNlist)
    '==== create an array of names and percent of count
    i=1
    dim vPN[vCount] as P
    for each x in vPNList
     vPN[i].name=alltrim(x)
     vPN[i].qty = word_occurs(vList,x) 'quantity in original list
     i=i+1
    next
    '==== descending sort of array by the count
    vPN.sort("D","qty")
    '==== add the data to the chart, just show the first 15 points
    if vCount>15
     vCount = 15
    end if
    '==== create the chart
    Dim chartX as P
    chartX = ole.Create("SimpleChartLite.AxisChartGenerator")
    for j=1 to vCount
     chartX.DataSeries.AddBarSeries(vPN[j].name, scFillModeAutoSolid)
     chartX.DataSeries(j).SeriesData.Add(" ",vPN[j].qty)
    next j
    '=== finish creating the chart
    chartX.caption = "Pareto Analysis of DMRs by Part Number"
    chartX.legendpos = 3 'bottom
    chartX.unitaxislabel = "quantity"
    chartX.height = 400
    chartX.width = 590
    Response.mime_type = "image/jpeg"
    ? chartX.SaveToStream(2)
    delete chartX

        I want to forewarn you that the SimpleChartLite that is shipped with Alpha can be freely distributed ONLY with a desktop application but has to be licensed for web distribution.

          Re: Graphical Charts with Alpha tables

          I have tried to play around with the code to fit my app, but i am having a few issues with understanding how i can point the data required for the graphs with my table.

          In addition, I have looked at the sample chart database that comes with alpha and I have narrowed down the issue i am having.

          Below is an extract from the code in the sample database. I am having a bit of trouble understanding how i can point this code to my table (in Red).

          Code:
          <%a5
          Dim chartX as P
          chartX = ole.Create("SimpleChartLite.AxisChartGenerator")
          dim list as C
          dim inv as C
          [B][COLOR="Red"]inv = "000001"
          list = set.external_record_content_get("items-product", "product->description + '|' + invoice_items->extension", "invoice_items->extension", "invoice_items->invoice_number = " + quote(inv))[/COLOR][/B]chartX.DataSeries.AddBarSeries("Items", scFillModeAutoSolid)
          dim desc as C
          dim num as N
          for each x in list
              desc = alltrim(word(x, 1, "|"))
              num = val(word(x, 2, "|"))
              chartX.DataSeries(1).SeriesData.Add(desc, num)
          next
          chartX.height = 400
          chartX.width = 300
          Response.mime_type = "image/jpeg"
          ? chartX.SaveToStream(2)
          delete chartX
          %>
          I have a table called 'tbl_issues_log.set', and within it have field (1) TYPE containing (Issues, Assumptions or Risks) and field (2) INT_NAME containing (user names). I want to count the total of each user_name against an issue.
          Therefore the graph i am trying to create will show, how many issues each person has registered to their name.

          Pat - If i can overcome the issue with the basic script, i could then later utilise your code in my app as it is much closer to what i am trying to ultimately achieve.

          Can anyone assist me with placing the pointers in the code?

          Thanks in advance,

          Denis
