Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Open a5w in new window

    In some cases I need to open a a5w page in as inline frame and others I need to open pages in a new page.

    The inline frame is working fine. (too well) It always opens in the inline frame.

    How can I force the code below to open in a new window.
    if eval_valid("session.targetURL") = .T. then
    if session.targetURL <> "" then
    CurrentForm.RedirectTarget = session.targetURL
    end if
    end if

    Re: Open a5w in new window

    Hi Charlie,

    Just yesterday we faced very similar issue. Unfortunately I could not manage to find a5w function that would be opening page in a new window.

    The way we implemented it included javascript (window.open method).

    Hope that helps,
    Olga

      Can you show me the function that you wrote.
      Do you put it in a javascript folder and call it or did you just put it on the A5w page.
      Can you show me the code?
      something like

      <a href="file.a5w" onclick="window.open(this.href);
      return false;" target="newWin">

        Re: Open a5w in new window

        Hi Charlie

        I'm using alpha dialog component,

        This is what I have in my AfterValidate event:
        Code:
        ...
        if (...) then
        	CurrentForm.Controls.ReportPage = "http://URL.com" 'my URL here, Report page is a hidden textbox
        end if
        In the "Above Dialog" freeform area I have javascript:

        Code:
        function init()
        {
        	if(document.getElementById('dlg_reports_REPORTPAGE').value!="")
        		window.open(document.getElementById('dlg_reports_REPORTPAGE').value);
        }
        if( window.addEventListener )
        {
        	  window.addEventListener('load',init,false);
        }
        else if( document.addEventListener )
        {
        	  document.addEventListener('load',init,false);
        }
        else if( window.attachEvent )
        {
        		  window.attachEvent('onload',init);
        }
        Regards,
        Olga

          Re: Open a5w in new window

          I am using a dialog component also
          When I copy your code for the "Above Dialog" freeform area and save, it just disappears.
          Is there a trick to get the code to stay.
          I am going to source and deleting the HTML and then pasting your code.

          When I save, it disappears

          can you attach your dialog so I can see what you did?
          Thanks

            Hi Charlie,

            I think this is A5 bug ("Save" button does not save). WA here is to put all code there and press "Close", then A5 will ask you whether you want to save or not, select save.

            Please be aware that this method will only work if user enables pop-ups in his browser.
            My component is attached, hope that will help.

            Regards,
            Olga

                Re: Open a5w in new window

                Thanks Olga for your help, it works great!

                In my notes to set this up, I made the following comments. I post it here so maybe it help someone else with the steps to take:

                TITLE: OPEN A REPORT IN NEW TAB/WINDOW

                Note, this works in dialog components only.
                The lines below that are in caps, are the areas within the dialog to add/change.

                CONTROLS, CONTROL TYPES
                add a control called ReportPage, scope local, hidden

                PROPERTIES, FREEFORM EDIT REGIONS, ABOVE DIALOG
                note: replace the 2 items in this script that say 'dlg_reports_REPORTPAGE' with name
                of your dialog. Remember to replace any - in the dialog name with an _ or it will not
                work. For example, if the dialog is named "dlg_tirosh-rpts.a5wcmp", then the the
                replacement would be 'dlg_tirosh_rpts_REPORTPAGE'

                Add this script, with the modifications noted above...

                <script language="javascript">
                <!--
                function init(){
                if(document.getElementById('dlg_reports_REPORTPAGE').value!="")
                window.open(document.getElementById('dlg_reports_REPORTPAGE').value);
                }
                if( window.addEventListener ) {
                window.addEventListener('load',init,false);
                } else if( document.addEventListener ) {
                document.addEventListener('load',init,false);
                } else if( window.attachEvent ) {
                window.attachEvent('onload',init);
                }
                -->
                </script>

                PROPERTIES, SERVER EVENTS, AFTERVALIDATE

                if file.exists(filename)
                CurrentForm.Controls.ReportPage = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
                end if
