Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Can onyone assist with a successful process for image refernece files.

I've had this going - even helped people but I just can't get it working.

All is good until it's published then just says can't find the file and but shows the location it's looking, but the file is there, at that location? Any help, my eyes are starting to strain over this.

What kills me I've done it before, just wondering if things have changed.

Really like some to go throught the steps on a simple process.

Just can't get it to locate the files from a grid.

      Peter,

I've had good success following the example shown in the Web Applications Demo page "Flowers".

Can you be more specific on the problem? What's the grid setup and the error message?

Pat - you know sometimes I just wish I could sit around he BBQ have a few beers with the guys on this board. Mate, I stuffed around for ages on that, and your friendly advice just pointed me to a simple sample app, you know I have not looked at those files for ages, and there it was the answer within 60 seconds of your note. [PathAlias.ADB_Path] in the image path of the field properties was missing.

Well done, thanks and maybe one day we can all have a beer together, here you go! on Christmas day I'm going to login, say Hi to all and have a beer to celebrate a great bunch of A5'ers just helping out as mates.

        Cheers,

        Peter

          I kept at this

The image does display when the grid is visible. That is probably the best lead as to what the problem may be, so if the grid is displayed as well as the detail view there is no issue, if the grid is hidden and did not reference the image, the detail view will also display the file, however once the grid has displayed the image and then links to the detail view (without the grid remaining visible) the browser loses the alias and looks for the file in the session folder for the file.

It was a bug - Jerry has now advised the following.

          Peter

We have identified there is a problem and the nature of the problem, but as yet have not found the exact source or a solution. The code is extremely complex and we want to find the root cause and not just add in a workaround. The only time it occurs is when the grid is hidden when the detail is displayed. We hope to have a workable solution shortly.

          Peter

We had added a fix and it should be in the next release build. You can now have the same image in the grid and detail without any problems. If you use image file reference fields, we also found a problem. If you didn't specify an alias for the image path in the component, the system might not find the linked image if it was in the database folder or a subfolder under the data. The system now will add the alias to the database folder as a default. If you specifed a full path in the image file reference, that will still work.
