Updating field in Grid from a variable

What I want to achieve is this.

I have two tables QuoteHdr and Qitems. For each quote you can have multiple items. In the QuoteHdr table I keep track of the number of items by holding the number of items in a field. In the desktop version this is easily updated when a new item is added. Although I can use this value in a variable and create a new item with the next number. I can't understand how to write back the new value to the QuoteHdr table. I am not understanding which section should hold the Alpha 5 code to do this.

QuoteHdr Table
QuoteNo = 50007
Noitems = 2

QItem Table
QuoteNo = 50007
QItem = 50007-2

I have a web page with two grids, one for the Quotehdr data the other a tabular grid listing the Quote Items. this is used to edit existing items. I use a link on the QuoteHdr grid to open up an input grid on another web page. When this page is complete the Submit button takes the user back to the QuoteHdr page.

Any guidance appreciated...

I really am not sure I understand your question, or why you are doing this in this way, but are you asking where you can put xbasic code to write a value to a field in your header table?

If so, there are several options:

You can put Xbasic in any of the events of the items table, probably best in the AfterUpdateRecords event, like:

dim tbl as p
tbl=table.open(""[pathalias.adb_path]\QuoteHdr"
query.filter="id="+val(session.id
query.order=""
query.options=""
tbl.query_create()
tbl.change_begin()
tbl.whateverfield=whatevervalue
tbl.change_end()
tbl.close()

Or, if you base you items grid on a view, you can include the relevant field from the header table that you want to write to, right in your grid, and write directly to that something like:

DataSUbmitted.whateverheaderfield=whatevervalue

And then when you click submit, the value would be saved.
