Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Grid "Rows of Data" missing?

  • Grid "Rows of Data" missing?

    Hello,

Working on the demo and things are going well so far.

However, I've been playing with the grid (web) control, and for some reason it seems that the "Rows of Data" property has vanished from the "Layout Options".

I've been checking and unchecking every other option I think is even remotely connected, but still, my grid is only displaying 1 record, and the "Rows of Data" property is completely missing.

If there is something easy I'm missing, please let me know!

    Thanks.

Only two things come to mind,
    1. You have accidentally started work on a Dialog Component
    2. In the properties of an updateable Grid, you have selected "Add records Only", which means You would be buiding a Grid simply for new record insertion, and not displaying or modifying existing records.

Re: Grid "Rows of Data" missing?

      I see... I think I fall into category #2.

I've confirmed the Grid component is tabular, read-only (as I want to have a detail view, so I can ADD new entries). However, I'd still like to have multiple items in the grid, with way to search/filter them, then select the one I'd like to edit, click it, then have it appear in the detail view.

By having the grid "read-only", the "Rows of Data" property goes missing! (I've created a new grid and tested this).

Funny though, the TOPMOST preview window shows multiple rows, yet the bottom preview window shows only one line.

      I've attached screenshots for clarity...

Post the grid file up here, someone will figure it out.

Re: Grid "Rows of Data" missing?

I figured out how you got to this point, and maybe how to get back.

            You probably did the following:

            - create a normal editable grid
            - set the rows to 1
            - selected Add Only (which makes the Rows of Data disappear)
            - changed your mind, made the grid read only so you could add a Detail view
            - Added a Detail View (which makes the Add Only disappear).

Now you can't uncheck Add Only to cause the Rows of Data to appear. So you are stuck.

            To fix, you can:

            - uncheck Detail (don't worry, you can get it back)
            - make one field editable in the grid
            - see and uncheck the Add Only box
            - see and change your Rows of Data setting.
            - go back and make the grid read only
            - recheck your Detail view.

            Your's truily, Sherlock

Re: Grid "Rows of Data" missing?

Being obsessive has its advantages:). But I admit I know when most of the properties are supposed to appear/disappear, so I knew it was some sequence of events.

I turned it in as a bug only because it may be easy for them to fix.
