Get the User's Name from Login Value

I have a table that I have a list of UserID's , Names, and Email Addresses. My users log in with a userID. in Xbasic code, how can I link the logged in userID with the table's userID and display "Welcome 'FirstName LastName' on the a5w page.

Are you going to use Security Framework for this application, or design your own login and security methods?

Then you want to use the "External user identifier" found at the very bottom of the web security configuration. Check that, I call mine "__protected__ulink". Now look at any of your Users in security. Note the External User ID field. The trick is to make that value the same as the key field value in your users table that has Name, Address, etc. Whatever value is in the External User ID field will always be present as a session variable if that user is logged in.

Once that is done, the expression I use to get their name is:

That a5ws_logged_in_user_values() is a good function and I should use it. I don't right now. So ignore what I said about User Identifier field. The a5ws_logged_in_user_values() gets values from "whoever is logged in" without that identifier. The pUser.userid is their UserID in your case.

So you can add something like:

session.fullname = alltrim(lookupc("F",alltrim(pUser.userid),"alltrim(Fname) + ' ' + alltrim(Lname)","[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\myusers.dbf","UserID"))
? "Welcome : " + session.fullname

I'm kind of a noobie at this software and not a vetran programmer except for I know a bit of MS SQL.

My code is now:

I use the ulink property to store the full name of a user (or what they are called on the welcome screen etc.), it's not the most sophisticated way but it is quick and simple...

I have a file called sys_uinfo.a5w which I include at the top of each main page:
