Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    new registrations (re posted to v9 board)

    i have re posted and simplified what i am trying to achieve in the hope someone can help.

    all i want to do is to understand the process of;
    1. once a new user has registered to the security framework using a dialog i have built from the help files.
    2. the user is able to instantly login and write to a table in the database their profile details (name, address etc). linking the new record in the table to their security details.

    i can not get the security framework to write the ulink value as this is set by the table's autoincrement.

    i am perfectly ok, if i add a record to the table and then export the user to the security framework, as i pass the ulink value (the tables unique identifier) to the securiy framework

    i just cant seem to grasp how it is done if a user registers through the web site.

    as i have totally struggled with this (and believe me, i have watched the videos, read the help, searched the board, examined the examples and bought the sports app) i have had to create a form attached to a php script for a new user to register and send the details by email, then i am adding the new record and then importing in to the security framework.

    if no one can help, can alpha please help or even just point me in the right direction. there is a bug in the alpha web store which stops the checkout process completing so i cant even see how it is done, i have checked on 2 different pc's and same error)

    Re: new registrations (re posted to v9 board)

    Let me see. The user registers and you create a security record. Then they login. The are presented with a form to complete their details, it creates an autoincrement value when they save the record. And you want to get that value into the ulink field in security.

    Just to start things out, you know you can't control when they log in. It could be right away, or it could be a month later, you have no control on that. So your plan should not be dependant on if they login right away.

    You might want to consideer creating the user record at the same time you create their security record, not later when they login. Let me know if I am on the right track.

      thats just want i want to do, and this is where i am struggling.

      The user registers and you create a security record.
      this is just a temporary measure until i work out how to do the above.

      i dont suppose its imperative that the ulink value is provided by the table, but i cant understand how this process would work and how the user security connect to the table. (currently by my uilink value, which uses the autoincrement value form and is passed to security as i register them).

        should be

        currently by my ulink value, which uses the autoincrement value from the table and is passed to security as i import them to security.

        just to clarify, i read back and i to was confusing.

          Re: new registrations (re posted to v9 board)

          If you are using the example from the Help document, then after you save the record to the users table, but before you close the table, insert a line such as:

          regid = tbl.id

          your regid will contain that autoincrement value.

          Now a line such as:

          request.variables.ulink = regid

          And then later when you save the values to security, which looks something like this:

          a5ws_save_user_values(output,request)

          (might be different, you might have something different where I have the word "output")

          will save the ulink to security along with the rest of the values you are saving.

          The above is a long shot since I don't know what your code looks like at that stage.

              Re: new registrations (re posted to v9 board)

              We suggest using a newer function to save the web security data "a5ws_Save_WebUser_Values()" as "a5ws_save_user_values()" may become deprecated in some future Alpha Five version. The reason is request variables may become read only, and the new functions (and its derivatives to get and validate data) allow passing values in another parameter. The older functions that may require setting the value of a request variable.

              All of the latest security functions can be found listed in the web help under Web Application Functions. Most contain code examples to explain how they can be used.
