Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Two fields the if CheckBox= True

    Hi,

Just a small part of a bigger project.

I have two date fields and a checkbox for a logical field in a grid.

Very simply I would like Date two to be filled the same value as date Date one if the checkbox is checked.

    Suggestions please.

Try something like this (syntax will need to be verified) in your on insert/update events for the grid.

    if ((datasubmitted.date1 <> "") .and. (datasubmitted.checkbox1 = .t.)) then
    datasubmitted.date2 = datasubmitted.date1
    end if

      Hi Wesley,

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

I would like the second date to be filled before submitting.

I'm now thinking, AJAX. What do you think?

Keith I don't have an answer for you, but I am very interested in the responses. I too, have a similar situation, and if it will work with your date fields, it will work with my name, address, and phone number fields.

Let's hope someone has good news.

Is this because you need to have the user see the fields before submitting? If this is a yes, then you'll need to use java. You may want to think about why this is a requirement.

If it is acceptable for the user to see the field after they've submitted, then the solution I suggested will work for you.

Re: Two fields the if CheckBox= True

You probably could figure it out with Javascript, but here's maybe one reason that would be difficult and why grids don't generally do this, and dialogs do.

Your client is looking at a dialog and you want that date2 field to fill in when they select some checkbox. The field name and ID for that date2 field is...."DATE2". So its pretty easy to fashion some code to affect its value.

Same situation on a grid, that date2 field is named....you don't know what it is named. Maybe its V.R1.DATE2, maybe its V.R14.DATE2 (different for each row). So I think the logic would have to be written in to the Grid to make it possible. YOU are not going to be able to determine what the ID or Name is. The Grid should be able to know if it had built in logic, and if it did, then I would suspect the same sort of logic that works on a dialog would work on a grid. But the grid does not contain this intellegence.

This is a guess on my part.

Re: Two fields same if CheckBox = True

              Hi Steve,

Thanks for your input on this.

The idea is that a user is filling in a form and for convenience, to just check the box and the second date would autofill instantly.

In one of my desktop applications, I have a button that copies the values from one field to another when pressed.

If you think the dialog route would be easier to implement could you advise how this could be done.
