Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    HTML...white space

Wondering if someone would be willing to give a pointer here. I have the following code. Problem is that the result in the browser is several blank spaces between the person's name and the rest of the details.

    ? "<center><font color=#678867 size=4>" + fname + " " + lname + "'s Details</center></font>"
    ? "<table>"
    ? "<tr><td>" + seekcity + ", " + seekstate + "</td></tr>"
    ? "<td align=right>" + seekphoneshow + "</td><td>"+seekphone + "</td></tr>"
    ? "<td align=right>" + seekwphoneshow + "</td><td>"+seekwphone + "</td>" + "<td align=right>" + seekwext + "</td><td>"+seekwext + "</td></tr>"
    ? "</table>"

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks for your time.

    Eric

It has something to do with code prior to what you are showing us.

I'd display the page in the browser and then view the source code and see what/how it is actually rendered.

      Eric,

Try this in the body of the page: (I just typed this off the top of my head so there could be a typo)

      <span style="font-color:#678867; font-size: 12pt;><%a5 ?fname + " " + lname + "'s Details" %></span><br />
      <%a5 ? seekcity + ", " + seekstate %><br />
      <table><tr><td align=right valign=top>
      <%a5 ?seekphoneshow %></td><td><%a5 ?seekphone %></td></tr>
      <td align=right><%a5 ?seekwphoneshow %></td><td><%a5 ?sekwphone %></td><td align=right><%a5 ?seekwext %></td><td><%a5 ?seekwext %></td></tr></table>

        Hmmm...thanks Pat and Al

I'm getting a little closer. I incorporated the person's name into the table and used colspan. It looks better but I still have a lot of white space above my <table>.

Here is some of my code:
If alltrim(lookupc("F",alltrim(session.vUserid),"alltrim(hidelastname)","[pathalias.adb_path]\users","userid"))<>"Yes" ' Hiding last name?
        dim lname as c = alltrim(lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\posts","Postnum=" +quote(session.Postnum),"seek_lastname"))
        else
dim lname as c = "(private)"
        end if

        If lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\posts","Postnum=" +quote(session.Postnum),"seek_phone")<>""
        If alltrim(lookupc("F",alltrim(session.vUserid),"alltrim(hidehphone)","[pathalias.adb_path]\users","userid"))<>"Yes"
        dim seekphone as c = lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\posts","Postnum=" +quote(session.Postnum),"seek_phone")
        dim seekphoneshow as c = "<font color=#678867> Phone: " + "</font>"
        else
        dim seekphone as c = ""
        dim seekphoneshow as c = ""
        end if
        else
        dim seekphone as c = ""
        dim seekphoneshow as c = ""
        end if
        ' ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
        ? "<table>"
        ? "<tr><align=center><TH COLSPAN=2><font color=#678867 size=4>" + fname + " " + lname + "'s Details</th></tr></font>"
        ? "<tr><align=center><TH COLSPAN=2><font color=#678867 size=3>" + lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\posts","Postnum=" +quote(session.Postnum),"seek_position_seeking") + "</th></tr></font>"
        ? "<tr><td>" + seekcity + ", " + seekstate + "</td></tr>"
        ? "<td align=right>" + seekphoneshow + "</td><td>"+seekphone + "</td></tr>"
        ? "<td align=right>" + seekwphoneshow + "</td><td>"+seekwphone + "</td>" + "<td align=right>" + seekwext + "</td><td>"+seekwext + "</td></tr>"
        ? "<BR>"
        ? "</table>"

Take Al's advice and look at the browser source to see what's causing it. However, it may just be that your cell is defaulting to Middle alignment and you need to make it valign top.

The pic below is my page source. I don't know...can't see what the problem is. I've completely recreated the page and I am getting same result in my pic in post #4. I guess I can live with this...

Take out all of the <p> and </p> tags and remove all of the <p align... settings. Instead, go into your cells and set the horizontal align.

Thanks for the link. Now how do we navigate to the page in question?

                  Hello Al,
Thanks for the link. Now how do we navigate to the page in question?
I gave up the fight and dropped the <table></table>
Instead I'm doing this for my data output:
                  ? "<font color=#678867>" + seekphoneshow + " </font> " + seekphone + "<BR>"
                  ? "<font color=#678867>" + seekwphoneshow + " </font> " + seekwphone + " <font color=#678867>" + seekwextshow + " </font> "+seekwext + "<BR>"
                  ...

Go here http://65.75.250.103/ResumeBrowse.a5w then choose an applicant to get to the page in question.

                  Appreciate your input!
