Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I have developed a Web application and desktop applcation for Paramedic's to complete their run reports. At this time, we cannot afford to have a provider host the application. It is eaiser for us to link the desktop with the web application right on the server..

the localhost:8888 works.. I cannot connect to the server using my ip address... I have a westel a90-7500.. I am running Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise Edition...

    See the following attachements.

thank you for any help anyone can provide..

    This link may help you.

I just experience that problem using cable. The basic cable service does not allow for hosting. I wonder if your service have the same issue.

I did upgrade to what they call "upgrade speed service" for $10/month.
I have not notice much in the speed area. But I am able to host and got a static ID along with other features.

Check your provider. Let us know.

I'm certainly no expert here, but I hosted my site using att-uverse. If you can log into your router, you should be able to open a port that will allow traffic to flow both ways. I use port 5631 which is generally used for pc anywhere and my router would allow the two-way traffic. Once you get the port open, you will set your web app server to that port.

You can see avilable ports by using the following or other free services.

      Hope this helps.

Sean this may sound like a silly question, but did you buy a Web Application Server License?

Just having Version 9 doesn't cut it. You still need to have the WAS licensed in order to access it from the "outside world."

I'm running a small server over a standard Comcast residential cable internet connection, and it works very well.

I cannot get into the cable modem that Comcast supplies me, so I connected it to a separate 6 port router, and set up my port forwarding on that device, rather than the cable company's equipment.

Also, you will either have to pay for a "static IP" address from your DSL provider, or use NO-IP.com, a free service that works in place of a static IP. No-IP.com will let you set up a URL (web address) that will automatically route to your DSL router's current dynamic IP address. (I'm using Port 80 and I don't have any problems with the cable company.)

I've been using NO-IP.com for over a year now, and it works great. With the two items I have mentioned above, (external router and NO-IP.com) you can run your Web Application Server from your home or office, and provided you don't have tons of traffic, it will work quite well, and you won't have to pay any additional fees to your ISP.

thank you for all your replies,

I do have a license for the WAS..

I have used the canyouseeme thing and the port can be found. The problem i think is that the dsl provider does not allow for the router to be used as forwarding.. As Rich said, i will probably go out and get another router and use the portforwarding on that one.. I will try that, and see what happens.I will let you know, I apologize for not getting back sooner, i was away on a SAR..

It is nice to know that people are here to help.

            Thanks again.

Yeah routers are so cheap that it's worth buying one just to play around with.
              Hope you get it working.

Good luck Sean, and do keep us posted. I always like a story with a "happy ending."
