Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Problem installing Geotrust SSL certificate ...

There are a few places to look.
The obvious, have you shut down every thing and turn back on after 20 sec. in order
The modem, gateway, router, hub/switch and PCs?
    Did you have connection before?
    When did it stop?
Check the ip set up in your router.
See if the router give you the mac address of the server.
One question? What server op are you using?
    2000 2003 2008?

Can you talk to the server from local pc? If so the network card is ok

Re: Problem installing Geotrust SSL certificate ...

      Hi Mike,

Thanks for responding. Yes, I have shut down many times. This situation has existed for at least the last 6 months, probably more. Also, the server is also the server on my LAN and is accessible from any other workstation.

The op system is simply Windows XP.

I am open to any suggestions.

Have you gone through the lan setup?
        start-control panel -connections-
then check the lan settings or
        go via setup....

if you have, send me a message.

Yes, I have, but I just checked it again, and it seems fine, bytes are actively being received and sent.

Again, I haven't had any problems accessing this server from within the office (LAN) or from outside (WAS). I can also use ftp voyager to ftp files from this server to an outside server, and can ftp files from the outside to this server.

All this tells me that the internet connection to and from the server is fine.

However, from this server, I cannot, through Mozilla or IE go to a website. If I type any url in to the address line, nothing happens.

Re: Problem installing Geotrust SSL certificate ...

If all the others pcs in the network can access the internet, it rules out the router or hub
If your network card talks to the other pc it rules out the network card
Left over is the settings in the server or the quality of IE
Before the next steps go to church and ....
                next:
Check the internet properties in the lan settings
see if the there is no other dial or network type in place.
clear the cookies, history, clear all.
                Check security.
In the internet options program reset web settings.
Reinstall the ie from a downloaded file from the other pcs
Try to download through the other pcs a copy Google Chrome.
The operating system may be corrupted.
You may have to reload the xp op. system.

I all fails open the window.....

                    Hi Mike,

I am just now awakening from the coma - what a fall out of that window ...

                    LOL

So far, I have done almost everything you suggested, except replace IE or reinstall XP. I have downloaded another copy of Mozilla, but still does not work.

In the meantime, people are using the application with no problems whatsoever. The only issue I have is not being able to get SSL to work.

I am tempted to buy a brand new machine as I was thinking about doing that anyway. That would give me the new IE, new OP system, and more powerful CPU(s) and more RAM.

But, I have been holding off on that move until I was more sure as to the cause of this problem.

Thanks for you abundance of help. I really appreciate it.

You put out the window the wrong thing...
If you are going to buy another pc, that is always good.
One more suggestion was to reformat the pc. If you do, please make sure you have all the drivers first.
That takes a long time, not the re-formating but the reloading of the software.
                      Have fun.
