Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RTF in Table Memo?

Is there a good 3rd Party RTF that can be added to a A5web page the same as the text editor on this forum?

And the other part is, how would the text be saved into the RTF Memo field?

Hi Keith are you looking for something like:
    http://www.dbdbi.info/blog_entry_2.a5w

Type something in, play with it, then hit the Submit button. See if this will work for you.

I downloaded Steve Wood's HTML editor to be able to do this.

      Hi Dan,

That is just what I'm looking for, thanks. I'll check out Steve's site.

Are there any instructions for this?

          Hi Jeff,

Go to http://www.alphatogo.com/resources.a...ilities_Page=3 and further down the page you will see the HTML editor. You may need to register on Steve's site to gain access.

            Re: RTF in Table Memo?

I see the descriptioin on is truncated. It is supposed to say the instructions are in a folder named 'docs' once you download.

It's really pretty easy. I did modify the utility slightly to make it more compatiable with Alpha.
            1. download the zip file from my website to a new folder.
            2. copy past the entire htmleditor folder to your web projects fiolder, retaining the structure
            3. publish that folder at least once to your published location
            4. You can then remove it from your project if you want, so it does not re-publish each time you publish all.
            5. then follow the instructions in the docs/doc.html file in the download.
            6. Those instructions include how to reference the javascript, and to place javascript functions on each page where you want your textarea to convert to a full WYSIWYG editing window.

This editor has one bug - you cannot make Table work very well. They ALWAYS end up with double borders and don't respect what boarder color and size you assign.

                Re: RTF in Table Memo?

The HTML editor is a great little tool.
The problem I have is how do you display the entered data later in a read-only grid?
If you later display the field in a text area in a read-only grid it displays the html tags.
If you display the field with the HTMLeditor in a read-only grid it shows the data correctly but also shows all of the editing features of the HTMLeditor, which I do want to do.
I can display it using A5 code but I this will require lots of coding.

Garry - Make the Control Type = Label and Display Format = <HTML Memo>.

                      Steve,

Thanks for the work you have done on the RTF Memo.

Watch for this feature in V10. It is one of many great enhancements.

Yes, I remember giving an unrelated presentation to Selwyn when he saw my HTML Editor built in to the application. He asked me to show it briefly, so I knew they were planning to include it. It's an HTML editor, not a RTF editor.

                          Re: RTF in Table Memo?

                          Hi All,

I have been working on getting a field to not only allow me to type rich text in, but also save it....

It all works great, until I hit save and expect the text to be there after the save. :(

I am using Steve's htmleditor, I have published the folder with the entire system, I have put the code under <head> but when I click save, or the submit button, when it displays my record again the text the the RTF is gone.

I have changed the type of field I am using thinking it might be the field type - but that didnt' work.

Has anyone experienced this too and know what the little key is to resolve my issue?

                          Thanks!

                          Julie

The field type must be a textarea field, else it won't work at all. On the WYSIWYG page there should be a Submit button that saves the record. There is a confusing 'save' icon in the upper left as a diskette image. In case you are clicking that, it does nothing.

                              Thanks Steve,

Where I have been changing the field type is actually at the table level.

Does that make a difference? I have tried RTF / HTML and just memo.
