Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Tables not showing on web page.

Hi, I am new at web apps with alpha5.

I have created a small database in alpha 5 to test setting up a web app with.

I have installed Alha5 application server ver 8.
I have Activated a licence I just got from alpha5.
I have set up port 8080 on server.
I have created a basic index page call "hello World" using alpha 5 Ver9 on same computer.
When I type in http://localhost:8080 I get the Hello world web page up...Great.

    However,
Now, I have created 1 simple table in alpha5 Ver 9 so data can be entered in it.
I have set up a simple form for that table.
In alpha5 I have opened up web projects.
    Then selected web componants.
There I have selected new web componant and selected grid.
There I have selected local database and selected the database i made for this test.
I have selected all the fields I want etc.
I have then saved that page as newpage.a5w
Next I have Selected new A5W page and sectected new web componant and selected the web componant I had just made.
I have also inserted some general text on page.
I then publish page to the local webroot.

Now when I open web browser and put http://localhost:8080/newpage.a5w
all I get is the text I inserted But not the table that shows up in the preview of the web builder.

However, If I use the built in web app server in the aplha5 v9 (which I have set up on port 8085) http://localhost:8085/newpage.a5w
The page shows correctly with the table in it.

    What am I doing wrong.
I have searched the message borad for same problem, but no one is having it, so it must mean I am doing something really stupid.
Is the V8 App server compatable with the V9 Alpha5?
    Can some one please help..

    Thanks.

Are 8080 and 8085 pointing to different phyiscal locations on your computer? Ensure you are publishing files to the location where you plan to open them.

      Hi Thanks for your reply.

      I have both app servers,

the alpha5 internal and the standalone app server set up pointing to the same document root folder, is this what you are talking about?

      Thanks.
