Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha Five v9 Total Web Apps

I'm having trouble finding any dialog on this.
Any previous thread dialog on it?
    Is it fairly new?
    Is it excellent?

Of what? "Total Web Apps", what is that, a book, a discussion, what? I assume a book, but you might beef up the detail in your question to render it less obscure.

          Ah, I see.

I assumed many would know about it.

I learned about it, BTW, through e-mail advertising an Alpha bundle with it.

Re: Alpha Five v9 Total Web Apps

I see this thread hasn't really been answered. I take great interest in it because I'm the instructor for the video. At the same time, I don't want to sound all self-promoting here.

I've never seen a thread on this, which sort of surprises me because it's been pretty popular. I get a fair amount of email feedback from people that they found it quite valuable. I really believe that if you're going to dig into A5 web design, this will save you a lot of time and show you things that you might have taken some time to otherwise discover or figure out.

The video came out last fall, so it's recent and current.

I believe the advertising has a link to at least one of the instructional sections so you can get a flavor. If you have other questions, I'll be glad to try to respond.

I can certainly recommend Steve's video. It is very well organized, easy to understand, and covers pretty much all the essentials you need to get a major head start in developing a web application. Go for it. I believe you will find it to be money well spent.

I can second Dr. Gary's comments. I have used Alpha a couple of years and the videos of Steve W. have helped me to get much more insight into the product.

After finishing the videos, I'd say -
if you're going to get into web app development, those videos are
                    a Must Have.

                    Great job.

Poking my head in here after a significant gap. Trying to find a fast path to looking at the latest in the product. Came across the Total Web Apps series - and posts of mine from a couple of years ago. :)

I said it after purchasing the V9 series videos, and I'll say it now after looking at the V10.5 sample videos in this series: I'm surprised there's not more dialog on Total Web Apps in the forum. The videos are so well done. The V10.5 videos look really helpful.

                        Frank,

I'm doing the same thing, just getting up to speed on version 10.5, yet version 11 is already on the horizon. Wondering if I should wait until 11 comes out so that my time is not wasted.

I've got customers asking for new applications, and I've got the design specs, just haven't yet decided if I'm going to use v9, v10.5 or v11. My timeline on a couple of them does allow me to use v11 (must be completed by July 31, 2011...

What's your thoughts on the matter?

                        Steve

v10.5 only option for that deadline in my view.

                            Don't use v9 - v10 has Ajax, v9 doesn't. You can buy v11 and get v10. Check out Alpha's deals.
