Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    xbasic on web app

    in a desktop app i use the following code on a form button..users enter child records into walktoclass..the current table is just an order id and date. bookss09 contains author,title etc that correspond to a Crn in the walktoclass. bs9a contains corresponding data for all Crn's for the current parent and child written on push. What I am trying to accomplish on my web app is for users to enter multiple crn's in a grid that and then on submit the resulting page (grid linker) would have the current table as the parent and bs9a as child. When I attached this code to the afterUpdaterecords event it worked but did not filter for the current record but added all of the records in books09 to bs9a..I guess i am not sure how to get the script to filter for the current record (based on t.preid). I hope my description is clear..i trimmed the code down a bit as well

    Code:
    t=table.current()
    wt=table.get("bs9a")
    st= table.get("walktoclass")
    rt=table.get("bookss09")
     st.fetch_first()
     WHILE .NOT. st.fetch_EOF()
     rt.fetch_first()
     WHILE .NOT. rt.fetch_EOF()
    	wt.enter_begin()
    	wt.id=t.preid
    	wt.isbn=rt.isbn
    	wt.author=rt.author
    	wt.title=rt.title
    	wt.Course_Id=rt.Course_Id

    	wt.price_N=rt.price_N
    	wt.price_U=rt.price_U

    	wt.price=rt.price
    	wt.Required=rt.Required
    	wt.Instructor_Name=rt.Instructor
    	wt.Edition=rt.Edition
    	wt.Publisher=rt.Publisher
       wt.Crn=rt.Crn
       wt.enter_end(.T.)
    	rt.fetch_next()
    	END WHILE
    	 st.fetch_next()

    	END WHILE

    To Filter on t.preid I guess you must have a corresponding value in the
    "bookss09",
    Can I ask what it is, and what types they are ? both preid and the other value. (That way its easier to show you a dummy filter expression)
    -
    Yes in desktop Apps this is a lot easier due to a form for example having a current filter based on the current record etc.

      colin,
      thank you for responding,
      Preid and id are 5 digit numerics..

      its is CRN(course registration number that is common in walktoclass and books09.
      What i am trying to accomplish is populate bs9a by fetching through the set with a corresponding list of books for each class entered in walktoclass table so after the user enters his list of classes in the walktoclass grid and presses submit he would be given a list of all books that he would need for all classes. Kind of like filling a cart with all possible books and then would allow user to choose used or new etc with check boxes...again I know my explanation is a little rough so if further explanation is needed let me know...thanks to all

        Re: xbasic on web app

        i guess what i need is a way to build a query or filter based on the child records entered for a single parent..user would enter generally between 3 and 8 childs(classes) , i want to use those CRN's to filter the books09 table and then write the filtered results to bs9a table using an id from the parent to connect the relationship ...again struggling with the explanation a little...

        thanks

          Re: xbasic on web app

          Ok what I often do is, make a dummy Form from a dummy field,
          Then use the Genies etc to make the code for me then copy it across
          I'll alter your code with pseudo||proto code so expect syntax errors galore.

          Code:
          t=table.current()
          wt=table.get("bs9a")
          st= table.get("walktoclass")
          rt=table.get("bookss09")
           st.fetch_first()
           WHILE .NOT. st.fetch_EOF()

          Dim QryID as P
          QryID = rt.query_create("N","id = "+Ltrim(Str(t.preid)) ) ''' This filter 'expression can get tricky, so if you need to expand it, look at the query.filter type expression

          rt.fetch_first()

           WHILE .NOT. rt.fetch_EOF()
          	wt.enter_begin()
          	wt.id=t.preid
          	wt.isbn=rt.isbn
          	wt.author=rt.author
          	wt.title=rt.title
          	wt.Course_Id=rt.Course_Id

          	wt.price_N=rt.price_N
          	wt.price_U=rt.price_U

          	wt.price=rt.price
          	wt.Required=rt.Required
          	wt.Instructor_Name=rt.Instructor
          	wt.Edition=rt.Edition
          	wt.Publisher=rt.Publisher
             wt.Crn=rt.Crn
             wt.enter_end(.T.)
          	rt.fetch_next()
          	END WHILE

                       QryId.drop()  '''Dump the query
          	 st.fetch_next()

          	END WHILE

          What I am suggesting here is to filter the bookss09 before iterating through it

            Colin ,

            again thanks, still not filtering ...but i will keep working.. there were no syntax errors but the records written to bs9a were not filtered..
