Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SAAS MultiUser vs MultiClient

    Hi,

This is a bit of a Nube question, but it is very important that I understand how Alpha5v9 works.

I just got Alpha 5 and need to know if this can be done.

Let's assume that I make a SAAS application (an online CRM app). This application will run on ONE and ONLY ONE server. But I am going to sell access to many different customers. Like many online, CRM packages, each customer wants to keep their data private.

With Alpha5, can I have ONE server, with ONE database, that serves different customers at the SAME time, yet restrict access by record. That is, customer "A" only sees his/her records. Customer "B" only can access his/her records. Both users have records in the same database and have no idea that the other user is on-line.

At this point I do not need to know HOW this is done, just need to know that Alpha5 has the ability to set-up SAAS apps the server multiple clients that will be from multiple clients.

    Thanks Eric

BTW: if you WANT to tell me some of the details, that would be fine. I am still watching the videos.

Yes, you can do this. You can put all your records in one table (though, of course you'll need more than one for your complete app) and then filter the records that are used, displayed, etc. based on login information.

If you're watching the videos from Alpha, the section on "Using the Login ID as an Argument to Filter Records" is appropriate here.

As another example, one of my customers manages auto fleets for other companies. Those companies can log into the web site and see info just their cars, though every car record resides in the same car.dbf.

Thanks Steve, that's what I assumed.

BTW: You are a great presenter. I was the top software trainer at a huge IT training company (over 750 trainers). Most training videos are AWFUL. Your's are great. My only complaint is that they should be in a format so they can be viewed on the iPhone.

Thanks. I dunno if there's a big enough audience to do this in iPhone format but I know the guys at Alpha usually read this stuff.

Ummm... what was the top salary of those trainers? <g>

          Steve,
Can you help me find the video on using the login to filter records?

Here's where I'm looking, but can't seem to find it.
